A friend turned me on to the Emerson Knife site tonight. I am new into knives and I have bought a BM AFO Auto and 1 BM Griptilian and 5 Mini Griptilians. I now saw the Emerson Commander and I want it. Which knife do you think i should buy for the first one? I have gun permit so it won't be my first defense (I hope) but you never know.

Get the one that appeals to you. After all, you are the one who will live with it. The Commander is an awesome knife. Enjoy!!!

Any one with the wave. They are the fastest opening knives made. They are even faster than an auto. I have the Mini Commander, and love it.

Mike

Yeah get one that you think suits you etc.

The waved knife are incredible. I love the Sark, the Commander and the CQC7-B.

The Sark and the Commander are both great choices for a good sized utility blade. I carry both and have the a BTS Sark and a plain satin finish commander.

I can not fault Emerson knives.

Sorry I caught you at a busy time the other day! I was in a knifey mood and good to go re talking about Emersons.;)

I don't know if you've already made up your mind on which Commander to get - but I have to say - any one you choose will be the right choice.

I like them in all combos & sizes, but for an all-around EDC, I'd go with the regular, or full-sized Commander. I find the older 2000 models more esthetically pleasing because of the top grind and more pronounced recurve, but that's just me.

The 2002 models lack the top grind (or swedge) but it's that way for a reason that has to do with sharpening. I doubt you or I will ever sharpen our Commanders so heavily that this feature will ever prove it's worth, so I'll skip getting into that.

The 2002's also have a longer back-spacer of G-10 to add rigidity to the handle, making it stronger overall.

Like a big strapping Commander that commands (sorry..) attention? Check out TAD's Super Commanders. The True Satins have a sweet blade finish and, ironically, are less expensive than the 1st run Super Commanders. The Minis are smallish, but relatively more stout, as they have the same blade and liner thickness as the larger models.

Still have your phone number if you ever have time to chat. I'll email you mine.

Take care, Howard..

Go with the Commander or the Mini commander. Im getting my 1st emerson today, a Mini Commander PE . satin finish... cant wait.. any sec. now the UPS man will show up with him.MMMMMM cant wait. ****drool**** :D

WOO HOO!! just got it!! and im very impressed, I love the shape, The serrations were the pinky goes and for the thumb, The wave is nice, took me awhile to get but i got it down, had to un-loosein the blade up tho, its good now. also , The clip is a little bit off the knife, its not touching it and when u touch the clip its springy. is this normal? if not what should i do. thanks.! EMERSON ROCKS!!!!!

P.s. Should i worry about wear on this knife ? if so weres it wear at. oh yeah and When closeing it i have to use alot of pressure to use the liner lock, im guessing this is normal and after awhile it shouldnt be so hard. right? . thanks

You bet it rocks! Take the clip off and put it in something solid and tweak it a little. If you use a vise, vice grips or pliers be sure to cover the clip with something soft so you do not scrath the finish of the clip. Enjoy that Commander!!! Carry On.

My buddy chose to tweak his clip that way too. Not because it didn't touch the handle though. He just likes a tighter fitting clip.

The liner locks are a bit sticky on production Emersons when you first get them. Usually with time they'll lose some of that "catchyness". Sometimes not. A few customers have a problem with that. I do not. It just means even moreso it's not going to fail. I think it was JH who said that in an emergency, getting the blade deployed in a hurry is important. Speed in closing the knife is of lesser priority.

Still some customers who perhaps have spent the most they ever have on a knife buying an Emerson feel this stickyness is not tolerable for their money, and they're entitled to that opinion.

it doesnt bother me that much as long as it stops after awhile. ill probably have to bend the clip down a little bit. i like a tighter fit too. :D over all its a great knife.
