Hi guys,

I posted a day or two ago, thread asking which you guys would reccommend more; the MOD CQD Mark 1 or the Zero Tolerance 0300......well I've been recommended another knife: the Emerson Commander.....does anyone have one of these, and has anyone heard good things about them? How do you think the Emerson Commander holds up against the MOD CQD Mark 1, or the ZT 0300?

Thanks

I have the Emerson mini commander and it is a good knife, solid and multi purpose. I also have the ZT 0200 with the manual flipper(a little practice and you open it without thinking) and it is as solidly built as any that I have seen and the recurved blade is functional not just the overworked "tactical buzzword". I have held the ZT 0300 and it has a slightly wider and shorter blade, if you like auto-open you should not be disappointed.

I don't have the MOD but I can comment on the ZT and the Emerson. Both are solidly built, although the ZT is a frame lock, so in theory it has a stronger lock.

My decision would be based on features and preferences: would you rather have an assisted opener with a flipper or a manual opener with a thumb disk and a wave? In my opinion the wave opener is a very useful feature. With just a little practice it works 100% and you knife is open without ever having to touch the opener at all.

If you're going to go for an Emerson you want to get a CQC-12. It's bigger and has a stronger lock than the Commander (titanium framelock, much like the ZT 0300). I've seen a lot of comments about the weakness and/or lack of quality control on Emerson linerlocks, YMMV. Again though, I like the MOD and the new "E" model is running for $70 over at lapolicegear.

commanders are good knives, the recurve blade is a little more difficult to sharpen, but other than that noithing wrong with it, that said its never been one of my favorite EKI's though, just like the CQC8,12,13,7, & SOCFK better myself, mostly because of aesthetics but agree with hammer about the '12, its the best of the EKI lineup imho, it was recently disco'd though & they are getting hard to find & expensive when ya find one.

+1 The 12 is the way to go if you can get one.

I'd have a look at the CQC-16 if you like the commie. its got the same
handle as the commander but with a nonrecurved bowie style blade
