I recently purchased my first Emerson, a CQC-10 model, from eBay (no box or papers). It should be here NLT Tuesday.
I have question or two for you. The CQC-10 I bought is an H&K version #0309. How many H&K CQC-10 models were made? Should I use this as EDC or hang on to it and keep it clean? Also, the specs for the H&K read that it has a 3.7 inch blade, while the standard production model has a 3.6 inch blade. Its not a significant difference, but is it accurate or are they really the same size?

I've never heard of an H&K version of a model 10... I'd like to see it! Please post pics when you get it!
As for your question... It's an Emerson, and it's made to be used.... Hard.
So, it's up to you. Personally, I'd use it. It'll last forever.

Here is a picture from eBay.

I'll take some better pics when I receive it. This will be my new EDC.

IIRC when they 1st came out all the '10s were of the H&K variety, some folks said they were too "busy" looking with all the logos on it thus the newer version without the H&K logo, or maybe they (H&K) only wanted "X" number of them, dont remember exactly, but while i wouldnt say they are rare they are probably uncommon, numbering around 1K IIRC.

as far as the size i have seen some emersons that are ever so slightly longer/shorter from one variation of the model to another (ie my ECA P-Tac is 4.1" vs the std ones 4" & a custom CQC8 vs the EKI version 4" & 3 7/8") i could believe that dont know for sure though.

as far as collectibility sure i suppose it is but imho its one of the more common rare ones (if that makes sense) as some variations number only in the hundreds (ie the ECA P-Tac numbered 120 or 125 IIRC) so if ya collect EKIs it wouldnt be a bad one to start with, but it would also make a great edc knife, just depends on what ya want.

if ya want email me and i'll send ya a link to the emerson forum (not the emerson factory forum) and i'm sure the guys there could answer your questions, i'm just not that up on the '10 its one of the ones i havent ever owned.

Cool. Learn something new every day (if you're lucky).
I've got my 10 on me right now, and I have to say it's an excellent EDC.
The H&K version desn't necessarily mean it's a framelock, though, does it? A framelock 10 would be oh-so-sweet.....

I guessed that the number made might be up in the 1000s as the number on mine is #0309 instead of #309. I thought I read that Emerson made all the knives for H&K up until they started producing their own.
Anyway, I'm not much of a collector. I'd prefer to put it to good use, so it will be my EDC.
I'd like to check out that Emerson forum. I'll send you an email. I'm always interested in reading new information.
No, the description says its a liner-lock. A CQC-10 frame-lock with Ti handles would be nice, but I've heard some reports of grip slippage on the Ti handles. That's why I wanted the G-10 handles.
Still haven't received it yet. Come on UPS. I'll post some pics when I get it.

all the '10s are liner lock.

imho ti grips arent slippery, i actually prefer ti to G10 myself, but thats just me.

Well, I received my 10 on Monday (a day early :D ). It is dated 2003 and #0300 (not #0309 as I previously posted). The action is very smooth and it locks up tight (no play). I love the wave feature. I didn't take me any time to get used to using it (the wave). My wife finally told me to quit playing with it (the knife). It is now my EDC and I have been using it for everything.
Now that I've been biten by the bug, I'm looking at either an 11 or a Commander as my next Emerson. What are your thoughts on these two?

SIFU1A - Just curious, what are the benefits of Ti handles over G-10 handles with Ti liners? The first thing that comes to mind is frame-lock Vs liner-lock. Or is it just a matter of preference?
I try to learn something new every day.

i just like the way the ti looks really, at least untill ya carry it a while and it gets all scuffed up lol, so aesthetics would be the main reason for me, but its not slippery far from it, unless the handle design is slippery anyway, the knives that fits my hand most securely of all (folders anyway) are a pat crawford ti kasper or ti perfigo, it is mostly the handle design though that makes it so secure, a spyderco ti ATR isnt bad either (and its ti) but also like a CQC8 a lot too. and of course i do prefer the frame lock to liner lock, and then ya have to have the ti i suppose, i have really gotten to like the flamed to on striders too FWIW, just really looks cool, again at least untill it gets scuffed up lol.

oh and if its a custom knife when it gets good and scuffed up ya can send it back to the maker (in most cases) and he can make them look like new again for a slight fee.............

Well, its going on a month now and the '10 has been a great EDC. I just bought an '11 and a Mini-Commander, they should be here this week. When they do, I'll get some pics for the photos thread.

I wanted to pass along a trick a friend of mine showed me. Some of you may know of or have tried this already. It definately works for me. I added a piece of skateboard deck tape (the rough / no-slip stuff on the decks of skateboards) over the clip and trimmed it to shape. I get a much more "positive" grip when I pull it out of my pocket. The tape does wear out after a while, but (according to my friend) it is very cheap and easy to replace. You just have to put up with the funny looks you get from the kids in the store when you go in to buy it

I picked up my CQC-11 and Mini Commander this morning from the post office. I got the delivery attempted notice from the mail carrier when I got home from work last night. My good digital camera is not working so I took the pictures with my PDA.
Top to Bottom: CQC-11, CQC-10, Mini Commander

The h&K because i have a CQC-11 with the company we all no Blackhawk Industries. From I heard these are only made in lilited numbers from emerson and if you get one you should hand onto it.
I've been looking for the CQC-10 H&K for 6 months now and when I read that
ABZACK found one and uses it I was crushed.Knifeart.co has them but there like $200.00 or more.I'll find one.
ABZACK if you want to see your let me now and just curious how much did you pay for it.
i also have the maker of the 50 cal sniper rifle Barret made a knife with emerson and I got that one.

I wasn't necessarily looking for the H&K model. I just like the '10 in general. I happened across this one and was lucky enough to get a really good deal. Sorry to disappoint, but this knife is a great EDC. I just sent it back to EKI for some maintanence and sharpening. I anxiously await its return. It is my favorite of all my Emersons (now 5).

I have a 10, numbered 0460, 2006.
No HK logo though.

I love the ergo's and the blade shape is great.
Been EDCing it for a while now, maybe a month, and I love it

Look forward to getting more.
