Not so much a review as a first impression. I just got my CQC-10 serial #0137. I'm impressed! Not sure when the change was made, but there is now duel ceramic balls to hold the blade closed, and/or maybe to stableize the blade when open. Pretty neat. Full, solid lock-up when open and only very minor side to side play. And I mean minor, almost non-existant. I'm overly critical as I'm comparing to my large Sebenza. The ergonomics are outstanding. The knife feels like an extention of my hand. Contouring of the handle couldn't be better. I love the wave feature on this knife. Not because it can open the knife when removing it from my pocket(which is nice), but because it acts great as a thumb placement. A small but noticable nice feature is the G10 backspacer. It's little details like this in a tactical folder that stands out. Real cool!

Something on this knife that caught my eye was the blade grind. Seems that at first the knife was meant to have a chisel grind, but at the last minute the reverse side was sharpend. This kind of makes the blade have two totally seperate grinds. Looks to be kind of hollow ground on the left side, and flat on the right. Neat!

Overall size of the knife is terriffic for just about any chore you might encounter daily or in harsher envirornments. I will make it my EDC for a while replaceing my large Sebenza and see how it feels.

If you Emersonholics get a chance at this one, jump on it. The CQC-10 really is an outstanding pocket knife!

blackend,

I think the 10 is the best utility Emerson out there and LOVE mine. One thing I always do with my production (and some custom) knives is adjust the pivot to my liking. I hate ANY lateral blade movement and most of my Emersons exibit a very minor amount when new. A simple twist of the pivot and a little lok-tite on the pivot threads do the trick every time! It takes some fiddling with, but I've been able to get all my Emersons to open easily AND have no lateral blade play. It really helps keep prevent liner slippage too...

Great advice and suggestions Chris, thanks. My 10 seems to have just the right amount of ridgedness with next to nothing in blade play. I've been carrying it non-stop sense getting it. This is one sweet piece! A real winner. Anyone know how many are being made? These are serial numbered, so I assume semi-limited?

blackend,

In your specifications you list the CQC-10 as tip down carry. In the photos I have seen, the CQC-10 is Tip UP carry.

Wow nice review I have had my eye on this Emerson since I first saw it on BladeArt.com

Dual ceramic detent balls sound cool ( not being sick here )

how is the blade opening smooth roll of the ceramic. The detent balls should have super long life being ceramic, first I have heard of this!

I don't think emerson used ceramic detent balls....I asked them a few hours ago and they said they always use steel detent balls.
