Greetings, I am interested in the Emerson CQC10 and have owned the Spyderco Military. Does the Emerson compare well against the Military? Does the Emerson have dual liners where the Military nas a single liner? Steel on the CQC is 154 vs S-30 on the Spyderco. Any help would be appreciated.

The emerson does have dual liners. I think the emerson will feel more solid in hand and be able to take some harder tasks than the Militarty. At the same time. I have carried both emersons, as well as a paramilitary. Most days the para goes in my pocket, just because I find it works a little better for me in most tasks. Para slices great due to the thinner edge and flat grind, compared to Emerson's chisel grind. Both Emerson's 154cm and Spyderco's S30V will hold a great edge.

I have heard a few stories of the tip of the Military breaking off. So I would say, for harder use, go emerson. For everyday chores and finer work, go spyderco.

The emerson does have two full liners. It's steel is good, but perhaps not as good as s30v. -That is debatable. I think it's handle is a better design over the military. It fit my hand (medium hand) like a glove. The emerson has more stippling to the grip. The blade grind of the millitary is better. The emerson has the wave. Millitary is tip down carry, #10 is tip up. The locks are comparable. Millitary has a longer blade and a more acute point. It's also thinner (carry wise), but longer overall. Emerson has the stronger tip. -Given the choice, I'd take the emerson.

Out of all my Knives the Emerson CQC 10 goes with me every day. Fits great in my hand and holds up to anything I use it for.

Thanks for the replies. Now do we go half plain and half serratted or just a plain blade?

I like the plain blade but thats just me. I have both but don't really find that I use the serratted all that much. I also find that I can sharpen the plain blade faster.

I did not put the Paramilitary into the mix with the other two. Does the Para have the dual liners like the Emerson, and does it have a better lock?

The para does not have the dual liners. It is just a smaller version of the military. Everything else is the same. I would go with a plain edge due to ease of sharpening.

The military and the para are 2 completely different animals. The para has the compression lock which is a very strong and secure lock. One that would be hard to defeat due to it's design. It also has dual nested liners. The Military has a liner lock done very well by Spyderco. The new millies have dual nested liners.

the para does have dual nested liners. the compression lock is very safe.
the cqc-10 is overall more robust though. much more tip strength and full liners. I'd go Emerson..

I've got a CQC-10 (happen to be carrying it today, and for the last few weeks) and a Paramilitary... (not it's full size older brother)... Anyway, I think that Emerson's 154CM will prove tougher and more forgiving than Spyderco's s30v, or s30v in general for that matter. Lately I just can't seem to convince my cqc-10 to stay out of my pocket when I get dressed in the morning... :)
