Emerson CQC-11 or Super Commander??

Okay so I finally have some extra money that I can blow on the knife that I've been wanting for a very very long time now...the Emerson Super Commander. Problem is, after looking into the CQC-11 it is really starting to grow on me and now I am torn between the two! After reading about both these knives and watching video reviews all day I still cannot make a decision. Please help!

I love how both knives are nice and big and the Commander in my opinion is exceptionally handsome. However, the CQC-11 does have a slightly longer blade and a shorter overall length to boot. This will basically be a utility knife first and a defensive knife second, and carried to work with me every day (in the construction field) so they will be used for a variety of chores.

So, do I go with my first love (Super Commander) or give in to temptation and go with the CQC-11? And no, I can't afford to buy both.

Below are the exact configurations I want:

Go with the Commander as it was your 'first love.' BUT, the 11 is my fav Emerson knife. Great for utility, good ergos, a nice design for hard stabs.

I have owned a regular Commander and an 11. I would recommend the 11 as I found it far easier to sharpen and there are no signficant advantages with the Commander, Super or no.

The Commander is often perceived as being 'king of the heap' in the Emerson line-up but there is no substantial reason for this that I can see.

Neither... Wait for the Super CQC10 to come out!

I prefer the CQC-11...

but then I prefer the CQC-8...

or the CQC-13....

or the CQC-10...

That is something I'd get in a heartbeat.

But because of that I really like the ergoes of 11 more then the Commander, if you only use two holds where the finger grove doesn't bug you, then commander should be a good choice as well, as I think it looks better.

I prefer my knives to have as much blade possible in respect to handle length. Therefore I'd go with the 11.

I never really liked the Commander design, so my vote goes to the 11. If there wasn't a recurve on the blade, I'd like the 11 a lot more than I do. For a big folder that can be used both for utility and self defense, I'd much rather have the 13, the 15 or the super 8 than either of the two options.

I have been wanting a CQC-11 myself. You might want to check out the partially serrated Super CQC-8 before you make your final decision.

Me too. And that is why the CQC-11 almost won. I say almost because I just purchased the satin-finish serrated Super Commander from New Graham for $206.

It was an extremely tough decision but the more pronounced recurve of the Commander blade is what did it. One member posted that the Commander has no significant advantages over the 11 but I beg to differ. I often find myself cutting rope, rubber hose, plastic ties, and other things of that nature at work so a bigger recurve is simply going to be more effective for that (or at least make it easier). Like I said, work knife first...defensive purposes second. If it were the other way around (or if my work duties were a little different) I can say with confidence that the CQC-11 would be on its way to my mailbox right now. And for pure self-defense only (as long as we're talking Emersons) I absolutely love the CQC-15 and I'm not even a big fan of tanto points!

Anyway, thanks for all the input and recommendations. Bladeforums is still the best!

P.S.
I'll try to post some pics of the Commander in action on this thread once I get it. Thanks again all!

Good call. With the "first love" statement I think you would regret going with anything else.

the very best EKI production is, imho, the CQC12, or the HD7, i would give the '13 number 2 or 3 after those though. i edc a '13 but its a custom, the only EKI production i ever carry is a '12..

the '11 and commander arent my 2 favs of the EKI line, the '12, '8, '13, SOCFK, '7, HD7, i like all of them better, but between the '11 and commander i would pick the '11.

Got my Super Commander yesterday!! Very glad I went with my original choice. The new stonewash finish is absolutely superb. Lovin' it!

As promised, some photos...
