Hello all,

I am new to the site and I like what i see so far.

Can I get everyone's opinion on the Emerson CQC-13 serrated?

Good/bad experiences etc.

Thanks

Welcome execprotec you posted in the right place sometimes it takes awile to get a response dont have that knife but i am shure someone who does will chime in before long hope you enjoy this site cause i know i do .

I've carried a CQC-13 partially serrated for about 3 years. It is an excellent knife, I am in law enforcement and use my knife for many things. I also carry the 13 off duty as an EDC. The serrations are wickedly sharp and there is not much that they will not cut through. The knife is built like a tank which is a positive. There are people that will say that they only like a straight edge to me it is personal preference. You cannot go wrong with CQC-13 when it comes to a hard use knife. As a note i even use it when hunting along with a coupe good straight edges. Overall the CQC-13 is my go to knife. I have carried other Emersons also and theya re all good. I have dealt with Mr. Emerson (Mrs. Emerson also) personally and the customer service is AAA-1.

Mine isn't serrated, and it's slightly modded. Mines been hallow ground by Kreign Nd is much thinner. Also mine had the swedge added by Kreign. I got it this way in a trade. Overall, I love te knife. I have difficulty switching it out in my edc. I tend not to use my knives heavily, andwirh how thick my knife is it's perfect. Needle point is wicked sharp on mine. Handle fits great in hand and is fairly easy to deploy with the wave feature. I want to play with a cqc-13 that is normal ground sometime so I know how it feels as a stock knife. Overall, great blade.

Hey execprotec,

Welcome to the forums:). You might get a better response in the Emerson sub-forums:

I've always liked the 13, but as with many other knives on my to-buy list, I've yet to justify putting out the dough for one just yet. Emerson has a great reputation and a strong following. The specs on the 13 seem like it might be slightly on the large side, so be sure you're okay bigger knives. The liners on the 13 are of the thicker ones Emerson has. The ergos looks really comfortable and the blade profile is pretty attractive. Though my preference is for plain edge knives, my understanding is that Emerson prefers the combo edges.

Thank you everyone so far for your replies. I have had it for 4 days now and have already cut myself 3 times LOL! I like it very much so far. It seems though that the wave feature works better with some pants than others--or am I doing it wrong?

Make sure that you pull straight back rather than up. It tends to catch consistently that way. Hope that helps.

Ok after having it for a while, Ergonomically it is perfect! I love it but, The wave feature is too un-reliable for me. Can anyone recommend someone who can custom remove it??
Thanks

STR does work like that. He has his own sub-forum here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=810

Did you try waving it open the way I described above?

Just keep in mind a couple of things:

1) If you mod the knife, you destroy the warranty
2) It's fairly easy to keep the wave on and not use it accidentally. Just grab the knife so that you're holding the spine of the blade down as you pull it out of the pocket. I've had plenty of waved knives and it's easy to do this. I rarely ever used the wave function, but it was nice to have it.

The Wave is not intended to be used constantly. It is there in case you need to draw the knife rapidly and have it open and ready in one motion. If you constantly 'wave' it open, you will subject the knife to some pretty jarring shocks, the equivalent to flicking a blade open.

Better to use the thumb disc and keep the wave for emergencies. The 13 is a great knife and easily one of Emersons most successful designs.

Kaizen--yes i did try it the way you described. I will just keep it the way it is and use the thumb stud for the majority of the openings like buffalohump stated above. Thanks again!!
