Hi all, new here and was hoping I might get some recs from fellow CQC-15-BTS owners on sharpening options. I don't have much experience sharpening and since this blade has some hard angles and partial serration's I wanted to get some advice before I screw it up. Thx!

Welcome to Bladeforums!

What sort of sharpening implement are you planning on using? I have the 15 too, but no serrations. I used the Spyderco Sharpmaker to do a touch up on it not long ago, but I have not done a full sharpening on it. You're right, the angles are interesting and a bit challenging. What I would advise is to tape off the blade with blue painters tape before going forward to avoid scratches (if that concerns you).

Would use a Sharpmaker like RevDevil and be careful at first. Have sharpened just about every blade shape on a Sharpmaker with satisfaction - including tomahawks and axe heads. It's very easy to do my Vaquero Voyager for example...just canting wrist up and down to follow the curves and keep the angle right.

I gave my user ZT0303 a few swipes and it was back to super sharp in about 4-5 minutes. The other thing to look into would possibly be a nice leather strop and some compound. I use an old dress belt and I added some red compound and it works pretty good. I need a real strop though. :(

Thanks for the feedback, I'lll take a look at the Sharpmaker! I've used my EdgePro system on my Halo and Ultratech in the past and it was fine but I was concerned that I might round the edge where the blade angles to tip if I sloped a few strokes.

I used a lansky delux kit to sharpen the recurve edge and then moved to an arkansas medium bench stone for the tanto. The tanto edge is very steep and I couldnt get close to the correct angle with the lansky, yet. When its time to resharpen ill mess with it a bit more. I would love to be able to get both cutting edges to a mirror polish and keep the transition sharp.
