Emerson CQC 15 now, or Strider SMF later?

I love the blade configuration of the Emerson, the tanto point, along with the large belly of the Commander series. I have also been interested in the Strider for its robust blade thickness, but I have never handled one in person and will not be able to do so until the big knife show in New Jersey in a few months. Should I wait, or pull the trigger on the Emerson? Any comparisons would be helpful. The knife would be used in my EDC rotation, that includes an Emerson CQC 8, and several Crawford customs.

I'd get the CQC15 now. Check with venders and find one with a back spacer, not the newer standoffs. Emerson's have back spacers, that's how they should stay. Not a fan of the standoffs as they seem to be a cost cutting move, I understand it but don't like it.

Also not a fan of Strider so can't help you there.

I had a CQC-15 for a few hours... ...like the blade, hate the handle. The handle is very uncomfortable with the "Choils" on both ends unless it fits your hand just right, it also has a big belly to it which makes it more uncomfortable.

So buy a Commander now then get an SNG at the show. I think you will like the SNG better than the SMF when you can look at them both.

What's wrong with their stand offs compared to the usual backspacer?

I'd say go for the 15 now and save up for the Strider later if you can.

Nothing really wrong with the standoffs. But for the past 25 years EKI has used back spacers and the change doesn't necessarily make the knives better, just cheaper to produce.

I would buy the emerson. I had the cqc 15 and liked the ergonomics better then my strider smf and feel the emerson was easier to keep sharp.
