I was just checking out my CQC 7 in greater detail and noticed something strange. There are to spots on the blade that show some machining marks. The first area is right below the bottom cutting edge (where a choil would be), the second area is the nook inside the "wave". I don't mind that it is rough in those areas, but it shows up some brown coloration as well. That wouldn't happen to be some rust would it?

That is rust, my old CQC-10's got some of that in the machine marks as well, kinda makes me wish that I got the black coated version. In any case, that rust is only superficial and shouldn't eat into the steel. You might be able to wipe off that rust with some rust proof lube of your choice.

That is NOT rust. It's the marks left when they cut out the blade. You may also notice some in the jimping and near the tang.

I tried picking at it along with some Eezox, but nothing came off. Wondering if it really is rust or something else?

my new cqc-7v has these marks also, and along the spine of the ss liner is a similar brown coloration
