:) Hi all:

I have a quick question, have any of you owned/used a Emerson CQC-7B BTS knife? I like the idea of the finish on this little puppy, and would like to hear anyone's opnion on this, it will be my first real knife.

Thanks
;
Nick

While I like the 7, I am a bigger fan of the 11.

I am in the minority of at least one place that I frequent.

I think that it would serve the purpose that you are looking at.

Most of us guys here dislike black teflon as it's ugly when it wears off. Emerson's were designed as SD knives. Part serrations dont have enough of each, and most here will agree.
Most Importantly, welcome to Bladeforums!

just ordered it, I've heard a lot of good things about it, and finally decided to get it. we'll see how it goes :D

thanks for the feedback.

p.s., thanks for the feedback, I'll keep the reccommendation in mind, when i shop for a mroe serious knife. I guess this will do for now.... ;)

Welcome to Bladeforums!

Ernie Emerson designed and made the tanto CQC-7 as a custom knife before he set up his own production shop. Before that he went into a deal with Benchmade where they produced it for a while as the Benchmade 970. I actually got the Benchmade 975 BTS, the long black combo edge version.

I really like it, but it is not a utility knife :D

Hay man,

Iv got a CQC7 mini BT serated with wave and its in my top 3 favorite for sure !!! :D

I think the 7 is a very serious knife and you will be pleased.

My first emerson knife was a raven and I did not like it at all. I ended up not looking at other EKI knives until this summer. Now I have a 7, 11, and SOFCK.
While I normally like framelocks, the wave feature is a nice feature to have.

And, welcome to the forums.

I've carried both the BM and Ernie's custom / speciality production models of this knife for many years now.

Most recently (last two years) I've carried an EK CQC7 from Emerson Knives with brushed satin finish and serration feature. It is not a utility folder and for that option I have carried a Strider tac-folder sans serration.

Been very pleased with both.

Have BM 970 that I got from custom knifemaker Woody Woodcock (who sadly passed away a few years ago now). Woody got it at a garage sale for $5.00. It was beat and had been used as a garden tool for the most part. Woodcock tore the knife down; cleaned it up; resharpened the blade (with serration); and put it all back together then gave it to me. It is as durable and useable and reliable as one could want and I attribute this to Woody's expertise and clear good care of the poor old thing after he picked it up.

If you got it already, you'll be pleased. Don't be afraid of using it, they're called hard use knives for a reason. (if the black starts coming off, oh well)

Yup...I carry my mini 7b everywhere, everyday, and it has not let me down one bit. I now have a commander, and plan on purchasing a mini-commander to alternate EDC with my mini-7. You will not be let down, and these are great knives.

Every knife can be used in some sort of self defense, but these are tough knives. They do have some sense of self-defense built into them. But, I think you should look at your knife as a tool rather than a weapon.

hey guys:

thanks for the input, i'm just waiting for it to come in now. I bought this knife as a. a first serious knife for myself, with my current EDC knife being a Smith Wesson Swat, which is by no means a bad knife. and b, i understand the utilitarian aspect of owning a quality knife, so i always order my knives with serration, because i have depended on the serration to cut ropes and stuff before, so i will not leave home without it.

I would be carrying a Springfield or Kimber 1911 as a primary self-defense aparatus if it weren;t for the horribly bad California liberals who insist on controlling pis tol carrying to a CCW only item. oh well.

I'm drooling while i wait for it.

thankd for all the help

Nick
