I am kicking around the CQC-7 with Chisel Ground for my first Emerson, as they do come for us Southpaws.

I ask you CQC-7 Owners who have a CHISEL GROUND BLADES CQC-7 do you wish you had Serrations, or are you glad not?

I am leaning toward Plane Blade. without Serrations.

I try not to buy serrated edges since they're more difficult to sharpen. If you don't sharpen your knives too often, then serrated edges are very useful since they ALWAYS cut.

I much prefer the serations on the CQC-7 and mini CQC-7..I have bothe PE and serration of the CQC-7's and I always reach for the serrated models.

I also prefer the serrations on the Commander. But all other models I prefer PE.

I had serrations on my 7b and actually preferred them on that blade. However, my 7a is a PE and I really like the way it looks. For my use, I don't really need serrations on my 7a but my SC? Well, that's a different story ...

LOL, I think Commanders look funny without serrations so my Super Commander & UBH both have serrations (pretty stupid reason I know, but that's just me LOL)

I'm the same way -- I've owned a Commander and currently have a Super Commander, I think they look a bit silly (for me!) without the serrations so I had them on both knives. Later I found, through usage, that the serrations actually served me quite well on my Commander blades.

I've owned a Mini and a standard 7, both without serrations. I always prefer plain edge tantos, YMMV.

I've got 2 7Bs with Serrations and 1 7v with serrations, all have been used a lot. I generally prefer the 7 with a combo edge because serrations really do make certain tasks MUCH easier.

I own several of the CQC-7 knife, and I really like the plain edge myself. I only have one Emerson knife with serrations, it is a Commander that I bought from a forum member. It's one of the best Emerson knives I have ever held and used. I much prefer plain edge overall, or full serrations. Not into the combo edges much.

Serrations ALWAYS cut when your plain edge is dull. Wouldn't want to find out the hard way when you're trapped in your car and have to get through the seatbelt. Just a thought....

That's something to consider... nonetheless, I prefer plain edge. I'm obsessive about keeping it sharp--a few swipes on a ceramic stone or a strop when one gets a spare moment goes a long way. I don't mind sharpening creations, I just prefer the aesthetics of the plain edge. I used my Super 7 to get through some really hard plastic/clam-shell try packaging (a big package at that) and it did so with ease and was still slicing receipt paper effortlessly... I know, not much of a test, but it has been doing well at all the tasks I've thrown at it.

I have ps in the slightly longer cqc10 and I find that the serrations are occasionally useful.

Emerson has some of the best serrations of any manufacturer imo. Right up there with Spyderco's serrations.

I don't know if its the chisel grind or what, but I much prefer Emerson knives that have serrations.

My regular 7 is PS. At first I felt it took away from the knife not having much length to begin with. But as time has went on I must say I am pretty much used to the serrations because they Are handy. I read above where someone said they're hard to sharpen. I thought that years back but they really aren't. Actually they're easier and quicker to bring to an edge than a plain edge itself.

There are many vids out there to show how to properly sharpen serrations. There are basically two thoughts on how to sharpen them, both do well but I won't get into that now. But I like the Super7 with the plain edge but the standard with serrations is fine- especially with the tanto edge.

I have a PE cqc7 and a PS commander for comparison, honestly the commander with serrations is probably the quickest to sharpen (considering I only use the serrated portion when its needed), best cutting knife I own. Granted the 7 is a straightforward drag across stone knife to sharpen I still feel that its blade shape still lends itself well to serrations.

Wallaby,

Are you getting any of my messages? I'm not getting any of yours if you're sending any.

I bet if the knife came in an oak box you'd take it no matter what! :)
