Help! just got an emerson cqc7b and the liner lock keeps sticking on the base of the blade. The manual said it is normal and needs to be broken in, but i've clicked that knife about 1000 times in two days and it isn't improving. My Bench AFCK was never this stiff even NOB. Is there any way to lubricate the area of contact to smooth things out a bit? Also is the Raven A better knife than the cqc7? only difference seems to be handle material.

Hi!

Sorry to hear 'bout your sticking liner.

I prefer the '7 to the Raven, Raven feels VERY good in the hand, just can't get used to the placement of the thumbdisc though.

I LOVE my '7

The lock should stick just a little bit in my opinion. I had BM Stryker and the lock stuck to the tang of the blade just a little. That is generally a solid lockup. If it sticks so tightly that you feel you need a screwdriver to depress the liner, that is not good. If you can flick open 1000 times in a couple days, then it probably isn't too bad, right?

Now... my BM Stryker was a little stickier than I would have preffered, but I put a little drop of tri-flow where the liner taps the back of the blade, and it wasn't quite so sticky any more. I've found that if you use some lubricant on the ball detent on the liner, it will make the knife smoother to open too. If none of this works, and it doesn't get better after a couple days, maybe send back to Emerson or something. Good luck. Welcome to the forums.

Emerson keeps the tolerances very tight on purpose, per his statements. He wants a tight lock up. I had a SPECWAR and understand your comment. It loosened up somewhat but never became like a Benchmade. I sold it mostly because it was an inefficient design ... blade length divided by handle length was too small a number.

If you love the knife, and feel bold, you could disassemble and very carefully sandpaper down the titanium liner lock a thousandth of an inch or so. Go slow. You may void the warranty. There may be a way to play with the stop bar if they made them oval shaped.

You may have just gotten one a bit out of his normal tolerances, but you bet he intends them to be this way.

Call them. Maybe they'll replace it and you'll get one a bit looser in tolerances by luck of the draw.

Mine got stuck such that I had to use a screwdriver only when I "slung" it open with a wrist snap.

"Doc, it hurts when I move my shoulder this way".

"Well, don't move your shoulder that way... next."

Hello Toe,
I have the CQC7 and mine stuck a bit as well. Nowhere near as sticky that I couldn't close it with my thumb though so I guess it depends on how bad yours is sticking. Anwyay, mine seemed to have some black grit that built up on the base of the blade and when I wiped that clean then swabbed it with a bit of Tuf Glide on a Q-tip it worked fine for many openings/closings. I don't know what the grit is if it's just normal dirt that comes from carrying or some kinda stuff that is produced by the friction of opening and closing. Hope you get it fixed cause it really is a great knife!
