Emerson Custom Blackhawk?

I am new to Emerson Customs and know very little about them, but would like to ask a question. A friend of mine has what he calls a "Custom Blackhawk" and paid @$500 for it within the last year. The blade is non-coated like the few Customs I've seen here, but the handle is G10-ish. Did he get sold an "aftermarket custom" using a Emerson blade, a semi production, limited run, fake.... I could'nt find any info on Emersons wesite, or general search, so I thought I would ask here. Thanks
Sam

does the logo on the blade read "EMERSON KNIVES INC", or does it read "EMERSON SPECWAR KNIVES"?..if it's the latter, then it's probably a handground blade.

it is likely a production handle w/ custom zero grind blade. ernie makes them two ways, generally:

1. titanium bolsters w/ green micarta scales, liner lock, zero grind blade.
2. g10 scales, liner lock, zero grind blade.

both are considered customs, though the g10 normally carry a much lower retail price.

there are also titanium slabbed frame locks, but they are less common.

sounds like a prototype to me, it would not have blackhawk written on the blade though if that was the case.

lotsa emerson customs use G10.

and true the logo would read emerson specwar knives.

one of the most expensive customs is the CQC9 and it has a G10 handle FWIW.

usually the ones with micarta and bolsters do run higher though.

could be one of the limited productions with the ZBG hand ground blade and the production handle.

IIRC he made 3 or 4 each CQC12 and HD7 all ti handles, hand ground blade, and hand fitted handles.

hard to say with no pic.

anyway, $500 seems to me to be a good price for a custom, and probably might be the price if he had bought it off the emerson table at any of the knife shows.

Actually, i just realised..if the blade is uncoated satin, plus it has the EMERSON SPECWAR KNIVES logo, it should be a good deal.=)..if it's anything else, i.e: an uncoated satin blade with the EMERSON KNIVES INC logo, that would be interesting!..

cheers,
Nick

Is this the cqc 11 blackhawk edition that was originally sold through blackhawk industries (tactical gear and Mod knives)? I thought it only came in a black blade though. The current cqc11 is available from emerson and no longer has the blackhawk logo (from the shop) printed on it but some people still call it the blackhawk edition. A pic is below in satin. If this is the same as your mates, then he got taken nice and good...if it is not, throw up a pic so we can see what it is.

It could also be a collectors edition knife like these ones..

Hi Irezumi,
I believe the "satin" one you pictured is different, as sgmairs posted that the one his friend had is an "non-coated", making it different from the Hard Chrome / Ceramic coated one you pictured. The collectors edition knives you featured are also not cqc 11s. they're the various ECA knives of different years.

Cheers,
Nick

Brian,
I believe you mean $135 for the barret?..and not 4135.00?...$135 seems a "wrong" price for a custom. I believe it's a production piece.

Cheers,
Nick

yeah $4K for a barret aint a deal lol,

the bottom 2 knives in the above post are emerson collectors assoc knives, the azak marud (spelling??) and the H-MMV IIRC, i have a ECA P-Tac myself.

if the knife in the opening post is a semi production, $500 is about what they run (tops), unless ya get a custom from ernie or have a really good bud a custom of any kind (with the specwar logo) is gonna run ya $1000 and up, up and up.

Nick, that is right, but he didnt mention it was an 11..I was showing him what the ECA knives look like with their grinds. And by saying that it is not coated, he could just mean that it is not coated black, thinking that hard chrome was just silver in colour. I guess we will have to wait for him to look at the pics anyway. Cheers

Sorry about failing to get pics, my buddy has been out of town. He is due back in June - on a construction job overseas. He seems to remember getting it at a show, but not from the Emerson table/lottery. My memory is correct - blade unfinshed/coated and marked specwar. It does'nt say Blackhawk on the blade. Maybe a refitted custom with a broken handle? Anyway, told him I would pass on it. Thanks to all who tried to help a newbie figue this out...

i would say at the best its a semi custom with a HG blade and production handle, they are worth ~$400 maybe $500 tops imho.
