Well, I'm looking forward to the Emerson Edged Combatives course that is coming up at the end of this month.

Those of you that have attended one of Ernie's seminars: Besides myself and some sturdy street clothes, what should I bring, if anything?

The following are thoughts:

  • My EDC - 2001 Commander
  • A trainer (would have to purchase ASAP - don't know if a leftie commander version is available)
  • Mouth guard
  • Prescription athletic glasses

Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Thanks,

Zzzen Dog:

Although I haven't attended one of EKI's blade courses, I have been to a few close to home. You might consider bringing the following:

- Forearm guards (if things get hot and heavy , on day two you'll have a hard time holding onto your blade due to bruising...trust me on this)

- an athletic jock (need I say more)

Good luck on your seminar. Be sure to post a review once its done.

Raye:

Great suggestions, don't need the forearm guards as I've been bashing the forearms on almost a daily basis for what seems like forever. A cup however, is indeed paramount :D . Mrs. Zzzen Dog would be most unappreciative if that area of anatomy were to be irrepairably damaged.

Zzzen Dog,

Of course, listen to Raye and bring the cup, but also go with your instincts and wear a mouth piece. I went through a training course not to long ago and actually cracked a tooth from gritting my teeth too hard during a very interesting combat simulation.

Some Alleve, Ibuprofen, and Flexall 454 wouldn't be a bad idea either. But most importantly, bring along with you the realization that any bumps and bruises that you receive are all in the name of good training, and also a very wise investment in your personal skills and survival.

Due to the much welcomed invite of a fellow Suspect, I'm also trying to make arrangements for attending the very course that you mention. If I can attend, I look forward to you and I beating the hell out of each other (as well as other Suspects) and walking away from the experience as serious friends. :)

Go hard boys!

Eric: I just jumped on to USN, and I'm still LMFAO! Great intro, Buddy. :D

Zzzen_Dog,

I've trained with Ernie twice now and I'd suggest the following:-

1) By all means take your own knife (knives), but take ALL live blades off of your person before any sort of sparring work. If you have trained extensively with deploying and working with your own blade, when you are under stress you will resort to muscle memory and grab your live blade. You can see the problems this may have for your training partner ! Don't worry about a training blade, Ernie always has plenty.

2) Protective cup (Very important, take my word for it !

3) Knee protectors

4) Basic First Aid kit (plasters, strapping, headache tablets etc.

5) Eye protection

6) Camera ! :D

7) A sense of humour and willingness to join in with the programme !

Oh yes, and finally, have fun. I'm jealous of you all for being able to take part, but finances (or the lack of them) prevent me from attending on this occasion.

Ray,
I think that you discovered it first because I just replaced the holiday welcome last night with the one that requires "spermicide" after viewing. :D
The PIQ (page in question) is here; http://www.betactical.com/USNindex.html

If you view this page, remember to keep the "hand" of your mouse pointer moving otherwise you'll have to wash-up afterwards with nonoxynol 9. :p

Bwhahahahah :D

Stinkin' hilarious!

Nice touch Eric, can't wait to see that baby pop out either :)
