Amici,
I have a quick "q" regarding EKI and some of the sticking points they have posted that voids their warranty.

Let's say you've had your knife professionally resharpened, NOT a regrind but resharpened by a professional, in this case, we'll say a "V" grind. Then after it becomes dull from heavy use once more, you wish to send your blade to EKI for lets say for resharpening or even a spa treatment since your original sharpening source is no longer available.

Would EKI just send the knife back with a note stating, "nope, this has been resharpened/re-profiled by a non-EKI source, no longer serviceable under warranty".. much to the surprise of the owner?

If so, I would scratch my head, since I thought one of the talking points regarding EKI blades was the ability to resharpen it anywhere, even on a rock or a pipe if necessary.

Also, what about you were deployed overseas and had a fellow trooper who was the battalions knife aficionado or even an Abdul or someone just knowledgeable in Crapistan that resharpened the blade for the GI in question, and now having returned home, wants it done right..

Am I onto something or totally off base. Enquiring minds would like to know..

Cheers,
Serge

I sent a Commander back in May for a spa treatment and to have the liner lock fixed.
It had been sharpened several times after 13 years of use.
Emerson fixed the lock, replaced all the screws, and sharpened the blade with no questions.

I guess it might depend on how much of a "V" grind you used to sharpen it.
How about a picture of the blade?

Sharpening and reprofiling the edge are two different things. If the professional just sharpened it with Emersons standard chisel edge I don't see why they wouldn't cover it. Now if said pro redid the edge into a more conventional V edge, Emerson may not cover it.

This^^, #1 I've never heard of EKI saying no to a customer, however like this post says^ If you make your knife a v grind instead of a chisel grind they may not touch it, but you can get the blade replaced for a fee. If you have just sharpened the knife a lot and the knife is still a chisel grind with a lot of wear on the non sharpened side I'm sure EKI can tell the knife has just been sharpened a lot. I'm not an EKI employee , or anything like that, but again never heard of EKI not taking care of a customer. I still wouldn't modify my chisel grind to a v edge and try it....
