Hey all

a cop buddy of mine recently asked me about a fixed blade Emerson for a swat unit so I started looking and was wondering why Emerson puts a wave like stub kinda thingy feature on his fixed blades... I mean I get it for a folder but is it just like an Emerson feature that he uses like a trademark or does it actually have a purpose

thx in advance

Purpose. It is a grooved thumb ramp, giving a more positive grip and additional force for certain cuts.

It originated as a top finger guard/ramp at request of a commissioning client. It was only after he, Mr. Emerson, had it on a knife did he realize it could be used to open the folder from pocket. I know there is a video and articles of Mr. Emerson explaining it. That is why it appears on his fixed blades in that function of guard/ramp.

A weak guard to keep your hand from sliding forward. Real fighting knives have a real guard or a quillion.
