Emerson Folding Karambit Question.

Hello all. I am new to these forums at least as a member, so any feedback is greatly appreciated. My question regards Emerson's folding karambit (the original model.) As it stands Emerson is no longer producing the satin finish so I have opted for the black-bladed one and intend on picking it up within the next few days. My problem is that I am not sure if the finish is to my taste. Every picture of this blade tells a conflicting story. Some look as though they have an almost ti-ni finish to the blade, which is awesome, and the grind contrasts the black finish because it is not painted, but in other pictures it is a solid carbon black, not unlike the finish on say for instance a fully serrated paramilitary. That is precisely what I do not want and would be dissapointed if I drove miles for no reason. I don't think there is anything uglier than a grainy black powder-coat and no visible edge. Who wants a blade the color and consistency of older all-iron frying pans? Could some owners perhaps clarify this for me? A picture or two would be most helpful. If not, sorry to waste your time. Regards, Vehmgericht223.

My two were both satin . If you plan to play with it , and you are not an accomplished martial artist , get a trainer and or videos . If you do not you will likley cut the hell out of a lot of clothing and possibly yourself .

I've owned a few of the Spydercos. I'm no expert but I know my way around karambits. Just never owned any kind of Emerson knife before and i want one of these folding karambits before they're possibly gone. Think it is a good choice for a first? I dont know if it as sharp as the spyderco because that thing is ridiculously sharp. My buddy split his arm wide open almost to the bone drawing it up his forearm and not realizing that it was indeed a hawkbill designed to bite into flesh. 23 stitches later he has a nice clean scar to thank Sal and Mr. Thomas for. So thanks for your response by the way, but you didn't address my question at all. I guess anything is better than nothing.

Some have complained about the black coating on Emerson knives , Im not a fan myself , the black Emmies I have seen are no better than OK . To give you a reference , the blacking job on my Spyderco Military is much better executed . The Karambit , blacking issues aside , is a classic , well worth owning , a much better performer than the Spydie .
