Emerson has a V-Grind and a Chisel Grind, which is more useful in terms of utility and sharpening?

I'm trying to decide whether the extra $50 for the Commander is worth it as opposed to the CQC7.

Thanks

The Commander and the '7 are highly different knives in feel, usage, and just about everthing else.

The chisel grind on the '7 veers pretty drastically in dense material like cardboard. The v-grind on the Com doesn't.

They're both chisel edged, i.e. the same to sharpen -- except the recurve on the Commander makes it hard if not a bitch to sharpen on a flat stone.

Both can be made awfully sharp, but they won't ever be like a kitchen knife because of the thick edge thickness.

Keep an eye on our Exchange forums if you want to save a few bucks. I got a Commander for $110 once, and if it was used, you couldn't tell by looking at the factory-fresh edge. There are good deals every day, and yours may be waiting :)

if you're in doubt about who you're dealing with, you can look at the post count -- no one who's been here a while is likely to damage his reputation with a bad deal, and you can check The Good, The Bad, The Ugly, too.

What about Emerson warranty, you can only send it in fi you are the original owner.

Thats the only problem i have with online trading.

I would just like to have it repaired, if it needs to be, without any type of hassle.

Thanks

I dont know about that. You call the shop and talk to Derek and as long as the knife hasnt been abused(like as a crowbar) they'll take care of it.

they have NEVER asked me if i was the original owner, as long as the knife isnt abused i dont think they care. they fixed the liners on a EKI CQC8 i swapped for, and sharpened it for $25 including return shipping, and did it in about 12 days too.

check out the SOCFK if ya want a cool EKI, sold only by extreme outfitters and they wont have any till sept i believe, but a cool knife, spec war handle and a tanto CQC7 style blade w/a wave, they sell for $139.95 when available, its aimed at the armed services so they keep the price low, imho much neater and useful than a CQC7 or a commander (i have 8-10 EKI's and 2 spec wars, of all of them the commander and CQC7 are prob my least favorites, nice knives but imho EKI makes better ones)
