Anyone bought a Emerson Hard Wear knife recently? I've been looking at the Reliant and Endevour and wondering how they compare to the Spyderco and Cold Steel FRN offerings.

Thanks for any info,
Clay

I had the opportunity to check them out at Brigade Quatermasters. They're lightweight, easy to open, ergonomic and the handle pattern looks like that of the Emerson Raven, but other than that they are just plain lightweight lockbacks in the same class as FRN Spydercos and Cold Steel Voyagers. Nothing fancy to note. Personally, I'd stick with the Spyderco Endura or Delica. I like the Spyderco hole better plus they're a few bucks cheaper than the Emerson Hard Wear knives. ;)

Personally, I'd buy the Hard Wear line of knives if, and only if, they had the wave feature. Their site says there's more to come so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

I have a plain edge, clip-point Traveler and like it very much. As far as I'm concerned it's a lot of knife for the money. It's built very strongly yet light. Feels like it was made for my hand and the blade was treated very well, better than my Cold-Steel Carbon-V. I have an "Endeavor" in plain edge, Clip point on the way and think Emerson has a good deal going here. Good Emerson quality knives that don't cost an arm and a leg.
Remember the Benchmade Panthers and Monarchs, these are made better than they were and for just a little more! I have an original Benchmade Panther and they were so outselling the other knives they discontinued them, it was a lot of knife for $35.00. Now Benchmade doesn't have anything that doesn't cost a small fortune and I think that's a mistake. I have an original Emerson CQC-7 Spec-War in all black, I cringe at what I paid for it! The hardwear knives are thin 7 fit the hand well, the handles aren't just Zytel, they have something in them to make them stiffer. This is a good way for those of us who want Emerson quality but can't afford a small fortune for an EDC but like Emerson's style! I have to say it was one of the sharpest knives out of the box I've seen in a long time and has held it's edge very well. I'm glad to see a manufacturer like Emerson offer a quality knife at an affordable price. I'd bet these will sell very well. So far everyone that's handled mine wants to know where to order one! The lockup is rock solid and the blade pivot is strong. Smooth but no play. I like the way the opening hole is shaped, it doesn't need to be chamfered because of the way it fits the thumb.
Try one, you'll be glad. If you drop one of these out of the boat you have lost a good knife but not a fortune1
SPECOPS.

Hey CH, Tactical Knives did a review about them in the Sept issue. I think it was Sept. I have that one and they said the quality was on par with the Spyderco models. They look like well made knives. I have yet to handle one though.

I just checked out the listing on Emerson's site. Blades are AUS-8 steel. A far cry from the VG-10 Spyderco has been using. If price is similar, I'd opt for the better steel. AUS-8 is good, just not great for a hard-user.
