This CQC14 model is the only EKI model I've converted four of so far. All the others are just one each to date. I'm sure this is partly because I like it so much myself for so many reasons but mostly the size of the handle and the blade combined make for a fine user. And this even if it was a thin liner lock to start and I don't like liner locks.

I look forward to the day when the 14s and all models by EKI will come from the factory this way and if I have my way with Ernie that will be sooner rather than later. :D Like I have any say in it at all. Perhaps wishful thinking on my part but I do drop the hint when I can and I want and HD option for all models really bad. I don't know if you've held the 14 in your hands but its a great knife in the hand folks. I just don't much trust the locks on them unfortunately. The 14 really fits me personally as well as anything I've ever owned as far as grip goes though.

The end result is always pretty great when I turn one of these great folders into an "STR HD" model (heavy duty) .160 thick frame lock of 6AL-4V. This one here I snagged a few weeks, or maybe a month ago back on a sale here just to convert it for myself. Its number 183. My other personal model is #061 but I didn't luck out with a lower number this time. My first one I ordered direct from Emerson was supposed to be #47 but they screwed up and sent the wrong knife in the box. Sold that one a while back. There is one other running around out there with a low number too but I forget which one. In the teens. Wish that one was mine. Anyway, this one is riding with me today!

This has been the latests project going on and was laying in parts on my bench so I wanted to get this project wrapped up before moving on to others before a part runs off or something.

Now I have a pocket clip to make. :) So back to the shop.

Nice work!

I also would love to see EKIs all have an HD option.

Might I ask what the two... bolt heads? are doing in the lock area?

Oh yeah. The button head screws. I only use those on conversion knives I've kept for myself and only then on thicker models such as this .160 thick stock. I'm sure it would work on .140 but I've not done that. I've not done this on my own customs because I don't know that its not a violation of some kind of IP but I do know from seeking legal council about the Wave mods before Ernie and Andrew both gave me their blessings to do them that there is no restriction or reason for them to worry about such things on knives already produced that are modified floating around out there.

Anyway, those two button head 2-56 screws placed in two specific locations under the locks long cut out block any downward movement of the lock in white knuckle grips. The pocket clip acts as a lock stabalizer laterally and these screws act to prevent movement vertically so essentially I've covered all the bases of the Hindererer lock stabalizer without having to use one of Rick's but I do have to do it in two steps vs Rick's which blocks both types of movement in one.
