Emerson Hummingbird TSA compliant knife, Fact or Fiction?

Back in 2012 when I along with many other people who have carried a knife their whole lives got excited about TSA letting us carry a small knife on board planes again, there was rumor Emerson was going to fabricate a compliant knife. There were even pictures of the supposed 'Hummingbird' model. I know that TSA hasn't let us law abiding knife loving citizens carry yet, but I would still like to get this knife. Does anybody know if this knife will ever become a reality or will this forever be a phantom knife?!

I believe TSA backtracked and retracted the decision to allow people to carry small non-locking folders onboard.

Best Regards,
Nick

Right, I was aware that TSA reneged on allowing us to carry on board. I'm interested to know if you or anybody else has heard if Emerson is still intending to produce the knife!

For reference, here is an image....

There is a short article here: http://jerkingthetrigger.com/2013/04/08/emerson-hummingbird-tsa-compliant-knife/

That shows an updated image of the image you posted so that the knife would comply with the TSA rules. It also gives measurements and other guidelines for a carry piece. I'm still holding out and hoping that someday the powers that be will let us carry again, even if it is a tiny blade! I'd love to get my hands on the Hummingbird, but there has been no talk of it on the internet for almost a year?

Ernie, make the Hummingbird please?!

I second that emotion! Come on Ernie, hurry!

I emailed the folks at Emerson about the Hummingbird and this was their reply:

"Dear Luke,

Thank you for your inquiry. I am sorry but we do not have any updated news on the hummingbird model. It is not in our production schedule for the upcoming 6 months. Please keep an eye on our website for updates.

Best Regards,

Emerson Knives Customer Service Team"

6 months too long . . . not even in their production line schedule yet . . . super not cool! However, in a previous email they did say that they still intend to produce the knife. I just wish it was now!

I believe the project was scrapped after the flight attendants union and others had a fit about letting small knives onto planes. After TSA reversed their ruling about small knives, I don't think EKI had the motivation to make the hummingbird anymore.

I'd say yes, but in my communications with Emerson, Co. they've said that the project isn't scrapped . . . simply not slated for production. I think there would be enough people who would buy this knife even if TSA never gives us our rights back!

I don't think it was TSA but the Flight attendants that caused the reversal.

With the contempt and disrespect that flight attendants behaive towards passengers these day I can see the need for them to make sure nobody has a knife.
