I've been knife collecting since the beginning of this year and I have to say that when I first started, out, as I was learning about knives and stuff, I really had a strong distaste for Emerson knives. I read on some issues people had with them and I thought that the standard black G-10 with 154cm, and the price was just insane. I thought that these knives were all totally overhyped and overrated.
So I started collecting Spydercos and Benchmades and then eventually really got bit by the bug and started collecting some Chris Reeve Knives, and Strider. But Emerson just wasn't in the picture
Then I had a chance to play with a few Emersons at a local knife shop and I remember in particular, playing with a cqc-8 and I was impressed with the build quality and the simplicity of the knife. It just felt good and I was really surprised based on the bias I had on them. Finally I had an opportunity to score an HD-12 as my first Emerson. I posted on here a while ago about it and I got it at a really good price and was like what the heck, I'll just get it and if I don't like it, I'll just trade it because Emerson junkies will want it as a collector. I wish I never got it because it hooked me onto Emerson. I have since traded the knife, but it has now evolved to a collection of a CQC-13, CQC-7V, a mini CQC-15 and now a CQC-15 on order. And I find myself reaching for these knives when I go out all the time because I just feel like these knives want to be used. And they are so comfortable to use.
I still love my CRKs, and my Strider, but like it says in my title, Emerson is actually quickly becoming my number one go to knife and depending on how I feel about my CQC-15, I might start selling off the rest of my collection and keep my Emersons... Maybe get them converted by Nath or Ferrrk with the proceeds from the rest of the knives because I still love Ti Framelocks...
