I just placed an order for a Journeyman. I have been wanting to try an Emerson for a while and this model seems to have what I was looking for. Any journeyman owners feel free to comment on the knife and what you think of it. I plan on carrying this knife in my EDC rotation and dont mind my knives on the larger side. The flat blade (no sweep) is what attracted me the most with the Journeyman.

I just got one, but it's now back at EKI because one of the screws stripped when I went to take it down. For some reason, the screw could not be removed and stripped. I was taking it apart to clean out the action in order to smooth it out. The pivot screw also did not appear to be loc-tighted.

Overall, I love the design, but think it is too big of a knife for EDC. It's not the blade that's large, it's the handle. To me, the knife seems too large and takes up too much room in the pocket. The G-10 is also VERY rough, more so then older Emersons. If they could reduce the size of the handle, OR make the knife a little smaller, I would be first in line to get one. I really like the blade design on this one.

I am not sure if I am going to keep this one yet. It seems like it would be a great knife for camping or work, but not normal EDC, just due to the size. I know you said that you like large knives, but this is just my two cents. Great design with too large of a handle.

I have a super 8 that I edc sometimes, so large knives don't bother me :) The journyman looks awesome, it's getting closer to the top of my list.

Is this design new or was it discontinued and brought back into the lineup? I read in previous threads that it was discontinued? Can someone shed some light on this subject? Still eager to try the knife...but I have read the same opinions from others that thought it had too large of a handle. Guess I will have to give it a shot and see what I think.

I'm not sure I'd call it brand new... It is one of the newer designs I guess, but there have been runs of it. You have to remember, Emerson makes knives in batch runs, so a knife may sell out everywhere, and not be around for a while, but it hasn't been discontinued. It just hasn't come up in the production rotation lately. There are a few designs I'm fiending for right now that haven't been made lately, actually...

I do like the idea of the Journeyman, when you look at how specialized so many of Emerson's designs are, it is cool that they saw the need for a plain old, straight forward, nothing too crazy, totally practical, EDC friendly shaped blade and handle design. Not for me, as my 7 and friends do me just fine for my EDC, but I hope that the Journeyman maybe is a gateway for those who don't yet understand Emerson, or are turned off by more "out there" designs, and will be swayed once they get a Journeyman in hand!

Ok that makes sense. The blade shape appeals to me much more than the other designs, but that doesn't mean I'm not against giving the others a shot in the future. I have been looking at the mini commander as well so if the Journeyman impresses me I very well may give that model a try. Thanks guys. I'm looking forward to using the new Emerson when it arrives.

I have not tried that one yet I had my decision narrowed down to the Mini 15 and the Journeyman and the 15 won but I think I might have to try it. After the 15 won other models followed and I never followed up with the journeyman.
