Hello
I am looking to purchase a karambit and having had great experiences with Emerson knives, it is a no brianer which brand to go with. I have a few questions I was hoping to get advice on.

1) Emerson makes the Combat and Super Karambit. I want to carry this as a bonafied self defense weapon and I am wondering if one is more important over the other. Is the extra blade length worth the extra size? What one do you advise I get?

2) Any training advice? I see Emerson makes videos on the Karambit. They are expensive but I imagine very good; are they worth the money? Any recommendations on reputable companies that sells it for a decent price? Are there other training options you think are comparable?

Thanks much
Zac

All three of the EKI kerambits are good pieces, I do personally prefer the combat kerambit over the super or the fixed blade my self.
The extra blade length on the super is not really enough to make a great deal of difference, defo. not for the way a Kerambit is used any way.

As to training, I have seen the EKI vids and they are OK, if you put the time in and have someone to train with they will get you where you want to be.
I have been lucky enough to train in Asia with kerambits and I found that there is a difference between how the blade is used in the west over how it "should" be used.
Training with people who you can ask questions to, talk with and can correct any mistakes as well as giving more detailed info will take you much further than any video can obviously. But if you only have vids to work with then that will have to be the way it is.

I own the ECK, but I do not own the others. It is a great little karambit. One thing about the design that's different from the several fixed blade I own: the blade/handle angle is not as severe. This is a personal design preference, but I often like the angle to be closer to 45 degrees (or even closer to a right angle). Even so, I really like this knife.

Training advice? The ECK is not a forgiving blade and it will bite you. Get some kind of karambit trainer. This way you can practice solo and with a partner and avoid injury. Even if it's just a cheap aluminum trainer it's better than nothing. Also, be careful putting your hand in the same pocket with the ECK when carrying for reverse grip use.

Looks like I am gonna do the mini! Thanks all!

That's a good choice and the right one IMO

You might want to think about a full ring back spacer for that bad boy too ;)

Haze, where'd you get that done? Been looking for one for a while.

That's one I did for a friend, I usually use Ti but that one is a "budget spacer" done in Aluminium.
They make a heck of a difference to those kerambits, I carry one with the same style of spacer too.:)

So I feel like a complete fool asking this but does anyone know where I can get one of these (the smaller Karambit) in either satin or black, either new or with an unused, factory edge? I have tried like 50 retailers and no one has any! I am guessing the holiday season caused people to sell out. Any assistance is greatly appreciated. Thanks

Have you tried the Emerson website?
You'd have to pay full freight, but "Who ya gonna call...?"
