Hey everyone,

I was just watching the commander opening demostrations on the emerson website and could not help but notice something...

There are 2 commander clips: 1 opening using the "wave", and the other opening using the thumb stud.

The clip using the "wave" is definitely a regular commander (or super?)

But in the clip using the thumb stud (commander 2), the commander seems to be a slight bit smaller, I think. Is this a Mini-Commander?

Or is the first a Super and the second a Regular. ?????

Here is the link:

SOMEONE Please tell me. I'm torn between a mini and regular and I really need to know if the difference in the hand is really that subtle !!! THANKS!

ya know...I looked at those clips before...but didn't notice.
Seems to me the first is a standard commander, and the second may be a mini.
There isn't a huge difference, so it could just be and optical illusion because of where he is holding the folder. That isn't a particularly new video, so I am sure it pre-dates the SUPER COMMANDER>

blade88,
I believe that the [Knife In Question] in the second movie, showing the standard opening is a Mini, because if you slowed the frame speeds down, and viewed it at a slower speeds, at some frames you would notice that the handle grooves on the handle spine, where the thumb usually rests, is of a pattern similar to the new series of handle construction, with the grooves cut into both the G-10 and Ti liners, and the Grooves tend to be wider, and hence more observable even on a video.

On the waved knife, these grooves are unable to be seen, hence i think they might be the smaller [cut into Ti liners] only grooves.

Whilst on the standard opening, these grooves are easily observable at low frame speeds...also, if you noticed, the ratio between the pivot head and the handle width is smaller on the "[standard opening]" knife, as compared to the [KIQ] in the "[waved opening]" knife...this would probably mean that the knife in the "standard opening" has a slightly smaller handle...probably because it might be a mini...it wouldn't be a SC simply because the logo positioning is that of the old Commander and Mini-Com's, as the SC has it's logo further down the blade, and more centred...

Hope this helps...

linjunpei,

Thank you for the thorough analysis!

Are you a lawyer by profession?

I knew it looked a bit smaller... and you have confirmed it. Your responses to my threads are always a big help!

Thanks!:D
