EMERSON KNIVES/HECKLER & KOCH CQC-10
Emerson Knives, the leader in tactical bladeware, has teamed up with Heckler & Koch, the leader in tactical firearms, to bring out an all-business tactical folder which lives up to the expectations of both companies involved. The CQC-10 represents the latest installment in the CQC series from knifemaker/designer/company president Ernest Emerson.
The CQC-10s spearpoint blade is 3.6 inches in length and sports partial serrations. As with other Emerson Knives products, the blade steel of choice is 154CM, and is given a black Teflon type blade coating for corrosion resistance and zero reflection. The blade sports Emersons revamped Wave opening feature. The Wave on the CQC-10 is the newer version in which it is bigger and sports more of a hook. This allows the Wave to grab the pants pocket lip easier and better for an even quicker opening. For those unfamiliar with the Wave, it works like this. As you grab the knife and extract it from the pocket, the Wave will catch the pocket seam and pull the blade open as the knife comes out of the pocket. Done properly, the Wave opening sequence makes the blade appear instantaneously. I can open the CQC-10 faster than any other manual one hander tactical folder on the market because of this. For those who prefer not to use the Wave, a large, oval thumb hole is in the blade to allow the blade to be thumbed open via the usual manner with either hand.
One of the things I really like about Emersons designs are his handles. The handle is the user interface in a knife. A handle must be comfortable and at the same time, make the knife very safe to use in the sense that there is no forward or backward slipping of the users grip. The CQC-10 is no exception. The handle spine is humpbacked to meet the users palm, and along with the integral front guard provide an ultra secure grip. It almost feels as though the grip on this knife is molded to your hand. Traction notches in strategic places provide a comfortable, non-slip grip. All edges of the G-10 scales are rounded for comfort, which is a characteristic of Emerson Knives folders. A matching black steel pocket clip carries the CQC-10 tip up, ready for action at a moments notice.
Emerson Knives builds tough folders, and the CQC-10 fits that mold. The blades lack of a swedge grind allows the full stock thickness of 1/8 inch to be carried all the way up to the tip, further reinforcing it. The CQC-10 is a joy to use and carry. The Wave feature pulls the blade out really fast, which is ideal in situations where you need to extract and deploy the knife rapidly while your other hand is tied up [well, not literally but maybe thats possible too!] Over the past few months that Ive been carrying and using this knife, I can confidently say that along with the Commander, this is perhaps the best knife that Emerson Knives has produced. Its a handsome, stylish, and tough built folder worthy of bearing both the Emerson Knives and HK logos. The CQC-10 is tops in my book!
