Emerson knives, something about them..

There definetly is something about Emerson's knives. I have two, the CQC-13 and the CQC-7BW and I am not finished with his lineup. I also find myself drawn to his website (not a good website IMO) for the pictures, there is something about them and I am not a special "tactical" guy.

They just look good and they look very solid. Sometimes a knife doesn´t look tough in the picture but is actually very tough and sometimes vice versa but Emerson looks solid and is solid, super solid, super tough.
I can´t imagine one can make a knife more tough then an Emerson, and now I am just talking about tough and solid, not their function.

I have one beef though on the CQC-13. The liner lock is very hard to disengage and if fingers are cold I have to use a tool. The liner sits very low in the handle and imo should ride a little higher for easier usage.

Next I want the Commander and then the nr. 10 and nr. 12. framelock.

I bounce back and forth from my P-Millie to the HD-7. There IS something about Emersons! Thanks for the pix!

Emerson does make some pretty nice knives, I have a CQC-8 that I like just fine. The only problem I have with them is that they coat all of their blades. If you like coated, liner lock, hell-for-tough SD blades, they're hard to beat. They definitely make niche products, but they fill that very niche well. Mr. Emerson has made some valuable contributions to the knife community, and he deserves every bit of his excellent reputation.

Moon---I stripped my HD-7. Green Scrubbies! :)

I know, I know. I'm lazy like that. Emerson's "satin" finish is interesting, that's what my CQC-8 has. It looks (almost) like bare steel, but it's not. It's described as "hard chrome", like the inside of an AR barrel. I decided to keep the coating on mine.

I have no problem with coating per-se, but I prefer my folders uncoated. I don't mind it on larger blades at all, especially big fixed blades with carbon steel. Folders with stainless blades don't need coating, IMO, but obviously plenty of folks disagree with me.

I really like a lot of Emerson's designs- he has a great eye for line. I would have more of his knives, but I prefer slightly smaller folders with non-liner locks. (says the guy with a Spyderco Sage in his pocket and a Bradley Alias on the way in the mail- both with liner-lock variations) The Walker lock is sucking me back in lately, so maybe I'll pick up another Emerson. As soon as I pick up another couple Barkies, Scrapyards, Swamp Rats, Busses, Spydercos.... there are too many great knives out there!

Thanks, Moon. The cool thing about the way the blade looks now, it looks like the Satin finish! I need to get a pic up and I will do that soon. You mean you're buying another knife?! :)

My HD-7 is my current EDC. I carried a BM CQC-7, then a EKI CQC-7B for years & I am just comfortable with the design. Of course my CQC-12 with a Tom Krein re-profiled edge is great too. And then there is the sexy curves of the Persian.

Those 3 pretty much cover my Emerson needs in a folder.

I love the ergos of my Emersons (2 CQC-7B's, a Mini-Comm, and a CQC-8), and they are very functional knives, I just wish Mr. Emerson would quit using the terms "satin finish" and "double V grind" to describe his production pieces. I have yet to see one, un-modified, production piece of his that has what I consider to be a satin finish and a double V grind:

Emersons do have their own personality, so to speak, both in pictures and in person. They give off a distinct "no nonsense" vibe. I'm quite pleased with the 10 I just got.

Is the lock sticky?
If so, rest assured, that will get better. My 12 needed a couple of thousands of openings to get rid of the sticky lock. Works like a charm today..

I agree. I'm not sure what it is, but I too have made several models as my duty carry. It started out with a CQC-7B, than a Commander, than a CQC-8, than a 12 and now a 13. I go back and forth a lot, but the CQC-8 seems to fit the best. Emerson is my EDC when in uniform (I also carry a Spyderco Military on my weak side), and one of them have been carried for the past 10+ years on a few different continentes and a couple different combat zones. A good performer and tough blade...never had a failure.

There in this picture somewhere (:D), but you can see that there are several other quality blades and yet I still continue to carry an Emerson about 90% of the time when working in uniform,

Nice collection rock!! I wish i still had my mini commander, Traded it a few years ago and haven't been able to get ahold of once since!! I'm still kicking myself in the A$$ for that one!!

It just so happens that I have a Mini Comm that I would like to trade. Been sharpend a few times and some of the black coating has warn off but still a great knife.

Still saving my pennies for an Emerson Commander...and a CQC7. When I get those I'll stop going to the knife store and browsing the Net for a year.

Just got into Emersons about a month ago. I already have 5 Emersons! Definitely sweet blades. Actually just received a Police SARK today, would this be considered a hawkbill blade?
