, but it should deliver a nice rake.

Don't use or sharpen it, leave it in it's as delivered screaming sharp state and save it for backup.

If you want a user get two, they're cheap.

A friend of mine does the hardchroming on the satin finish model. I've played with them and feel they would have some utility for self defense. Obviously the reach is nothing but, then again, it would be almost impossible for someone to disarm you.

I know a couple LEOs who carry them as backups. They also like the fact that they are convenient for cutting belts, cord, etc.

I haven't sharpened one but it looks like you could use any good sharpener with a rod shape.

I have carried one for quite a while. I am impressed by the size efficient knife/sheath combination. Like RKnight suggested, I do not use mine for every day cutting chores so it just hangs around my neck and stays sharp.

Mine wasn't as sharp as most when it arrived, but a couple of strokes across the 204 Sharpmaker and it shaves with the best of them!

Ahhhhh,....Griffes.
GriffeTrio.JPG

Fred Perrin designed the Griffes (La Griffe would be redundant since La Griffe means THE Claw), and while his customs are EXCELLENT, the Emerson versions are also quite nice.

In the photo above you'll see the Emerson Griffe (top), my Perrin Custom Buffalo Horn Bowie Griffe, and a Perrin Custom Sterile 100% G10 Griffe that I arranged for Fred to make a limited run of for the Emerson Usual Suspects.

La Griffes feel incredibly natural and "fightable". Balance is exsquisite. La Griffes becomes an extension of your hand. By nature they're fighters, but they excel for utility use as well. Nothing rips open a heavy cardboard box like a Griffe.

I carry the Perrin Custom Bowie daily, unless I'm travelng by air, and then I carry either the Perrin G10 or my titanium Emerson. Either way I feel well armed.

Sharpening is a breeze with the Spyderco Sharpmaker. Touching up the blade of a Griffe takes only a few short minutes. My Emersons have been quite sharp right out of the box, but the Perrin Customs are S3 (Scary Scalpel Sharp), with the exception of the all G10 version which can only obtain adequate sharpness for fighting. The G10 also sharpens well with the Spyderco Sharpmaker, but it obviously never obtains razor sharpness since G10 is a synthetic and not a steel.
Put a Griffe in your hand and you'll know what a cat feels like. It's nice to have claws!

Hmm, now that you mention it, how would I sharpen my Lagriffe

Yes, it would be good in a self-defense situation. Its short claw like design, will give you that last line of lethal CQ defense if you are truly pushed to that extent. This knife was truly made for a specific purpose
