how reliable and strong are emersons liner locks as they compare to chris reeve and spydercos liner locks? i am in the market to buy my first emerson but one of my pet peeves with buying folders is blade play. any help is appreciated.

i have heard nothing but good things about emerson frame locks. I have handled the 12 and the hd-7 models but never owned either because i am a lefty so neither is really pratical for me. Neither of them had any blade play to speak of. The lock is a rather big slice of Ti. What model where you considering?

the reeves are frame locks, so a comparison is not really apples to apples. a quality frame lock is stronger than a quality liner lock.

with the emersons, blade play is typically a result of a loose pivot screw, not the lock.

the liner locks are as strong as any reputable company produces.

like mori said the reeves are frame locks so apples/oranges there (FWIW imho EKI's frame locks are top notch ie the HD7 and CQC12) imho EKI compares favorably with spydies liner locks (imho the EKI are better than some like the early millies) & really most anyones liner locks, as far as blade play its never been an issue with any EKI's i've had & i've had a few, dozens for sure lol.

Get a Emerson frame lock! Or liner lock. You can't go wrong with either. One-two- three---LOCK BOX!!!

WOW i completly misread your post reconseed. It was late...:yawn:
But i have to agree with what morimotom and sifu1a said. I have brutally beaten some of the emerson liner locks with out any failure. My cqc7b has taken some severe punishment at my job. I have stabbed it through plastic 55gallon drums without any presence of blade play.

thanks for the clarification fellas. i should have known that.... i have been eyeing up these emerson blades for a few weeks now and was wondering how they were made. thanks again. i will let you guys know what i get :)
