Is it true what I'm hearing??Emerson is only using Ti on the lock and not
both liners.Stainless on one side Ti on the lock but no price drop??On the
eki home page it use to say titanium liners now it just says titanium lock.

YUP! And there should be a price drop. Good point. But Ernie knows what he's doing---I think.

Its true, I already have a few EKIs with Ti/ss liners.
There is no price drop on the horizon though. It was done to balance costs not to cut them.
I hope he does know what he is doing  The thick/thin liners on the A100 look abit off to me.

It is unclear whether there are actually any models with stainless on the non-lock side.

Some people "in the know" say that none with stainless have actually hit the market.

This is because all the currently known 2008 models with the thick-thin liners use BOTH titanium liners, but of 0.050" thickness on the non-lock side and 0.062" thickness on the locking side.

You must use a magnet on both liners to find out for certain. I haven't heard of any substantiated reports yet of confirmed stainless on the nonlock side, either from the field, or from the factory.

i too have heard none of the ti/SS ones have come out yet FWIW.............

Really ? Im sure I have 2 Ti/ss EKIs ? I could be wrong. Il need to have a double check when i get back home next week.

WhY would one liner be thinner than the other? Haze, let us know if you have any TI/SS, Emersons. A New batch of CQC-7's are coming out in 3 weeks.

yeah try a magnet and see, remember its what i have "heard" on the 'net and thats not always accurate lol, but if ya do have a ti/SS one it would be the 1st ones i have actually known someone to have,

My reference to thick/thin liners on the A100 was with regards to this pic. posted by Mormotom. The locking liner is clerly thicker than the off side and its also a different colour, but that means little as there could be a number of reasons for that.

As to my potential Ti/ss liners, i tested them with a magnet when i got the knife as one liner looked a bit "brighter" than the other. I didnt actually take the knife apart though.
When i get home il dismantle the knives and weigh the liners as well as do the regular magnet test and make sure im not a numpty :D

Yea, right back at cha :p

Here is another good way to test for Ti, blued liners look pretty good on the EKIs.

Interesting!

Can't wait to hear the results.

The A100 was apparently one of the first to get the 0.062" thicker Ti-side lockbar, but retain the 0.050" Ti non-lock liner.

Titanium can be heat-colored or electrically anodized to give it a spectrum of colors. Depending on the current, the more common colors are purple, blue, and green.

Stainless, generally, cannot be. Bluing doesn't really count.

Knowing they only use ti on one side will edge me even closer to spyderco:o

Gine---Don't let that discourage you. I used to feel that way. I remember when SS was Da Bom! It's good stuff. I just ordered a CQC-7!

Yup, thats about right. Iv never tried anodising Ti but heating it will give colours from gold to purple/black depends on how hot you get it for how long as well as other things.
The finish is actually much darker than the picture shows on that knife.

There is nothing wrong with ss but most knife people tend to be materials junkies (i know i am) so Ti is something people prefer given its anticorodial properties, high strength to weight ratio and its generally "esoteric" status :)

If you really dont like ss just get some Titanium sheet and make your own Ti liners or get a thicker piece and just frame lock it :D:thumbup:

Good advice, Bro. STR claims SS makes a better lock than TI. It's all interesting. I'll be glad to have the CQC-7 back. I even thought of asking STR to make an all G-10 slab for the CQC-7.

I like Ti for locks because it galls up against blade steel and gets stickier than stainless can. Also because I seem to rust anything and everything that has iron in it.

I don't like Ti because it seems to compress and wear quite quickly.
