Emerson lock "sticky"

I just bought an Emerson cqc-7, its my 1st Emerson and I see why a lot of people have good things to say about these knives. It seems like a very good knives so far and I like it a lot. My one problem with it though is that the liner lock seems to get stuck when I open the knife and its very difficult to disengage. If I open the knife very fast or use the wave to open my knife I have to use something like a screwdriver to pry it to disengage it. I have heard that some emersons need a brake in period but this does not seem normal. Is the lock supposed to be like this? If not what should I do? I tried oiling it and that did nothing.

just E-MAIL EMERSON the people that make them are happy to help there customers

Mine was the same. I sent it in and they fixed it. Now it's easy to disengage and nice to my thumb like my Spyderco Military

I have had a few like that and you just need to give it some time for all the parts to get seated in.

You can send it in to EKI if you want but I think you will be good to go in a week or so of use :)

Probably sounds stupid but I would rather not send a knife in unless I absolutely have to. I don't like being with out them once I have them. I'll probably give it a week or two and see if it gets better. If not I might have to send it in. Thanks for the advice.

i have seen 'em like that and a lotta the time if ya rub some pencil lead on the back of the liner were it engages to lube it it will fix it FWIW or it should break in after a while.

it took my '12 about 2 yrs to break in lol, it just got to were it released smoothly like it should even with the lead, probably shoulda sent it in but its fine now, finally lol.

When I got mine it was the same way. I really struggled to get the lock to release. This would happen if I wrist flicked the knife open. I took the knife apart which is one of the easiest knives to do IMO. The top of the liner lock where it makes contact with the blade had a coarse burr across it. I gently polished it using a hard stone to remove the burr. 6 to 8 passes and it was gone. I slapped it back together and put a drop of threadlock on the pivot screw, just a hair tight. The knife is perfect know. I didn't carry it yesterday because I was playing with it so much it just wasn't healthy!:D Besides I have a new ZT that needed some attention.

My new CQC7 was the same way. I'd rather break one in than have a loose and sloppy liner lock. Yes, it is hard to disengage at times, but that's all part of the "breaking in" process. TBH, I like it that way! Thank you EKI. :D:thumbup:

Also, when my LL breaks in, I always ease the locking bar in to position, when showing the knife, for example. But that's just me.
