Emerson Lockup question

Ok... Let me tap into your guy's wisdom. Is it better to have the liner lock up early on the blade, late on the blade, or in the center of the blade? Most lockup pictures I have seen on emersons have all been different. I am having to send my cqc 7bw in today :( because the liner jumped all the way over to the other end and jamms up. So which is the right way and what is strongest?

I personaly like an early lock up as it gives room for things the wear in over time.
If the lock is fited properly it should pretty much be just as strong at the "start" as it is at the "end"

All of mine have early lock-ups and have pretty much stayed that way. But then I don't 'wave' my knives as I feel that's asking for trouble.

My CQC-12 has a middle/early lock-up but that's cool cos its a much thicker slab and titanium has superb memory.

All are rock solid with zero blade movement.

But the warranty from Emerson has a rep on a par with Busse and CRK so you dont have to worry.

That's one of the reasons I dont 'mod' my knives as that will void the warranty.

I've had that similar problem on more than a couple of Emerson folders.
This is an unsafe lockup and you should get the knife replaced / fixed under warranty.

Here is the lock up on my Super Raven B right out of the box:

@ Buffalohump Yeah I hear ya but cmon... spend $160-200 on a knife Shouldn't you be able to wave it everytime or open it up 60+ times a day ? Should it be able to handle that? Or Is that just asking too much? Thank you guys so much for your input!!

@ Charlie Mike... Thanks for the pic... Does your stick really bad in that position? and are you ok (feel safe) with that lock up?

Thanks for your reply!

I don't carry or use that one. I will have it eventually converted by Reese Weiland into a CF and Ti framelock and a damascus blade will be made for the old handles.

The Emersons I wave and carry the most have been converted to Ti framelocks.

@ Charlie Mike Very Nice ... How much? and Who did that! It was a stretch to get the Emerson as it was... don't think I could afford the Ti Frame lock.

They were converted by Reese Weiland. They cost around $300 for a full Ti framelock.

If you ever start looking for the remote it's under you desk ;), also those are some great looking Ti handles that Reese Weiland did

LOL @ the last 2 posts.

you definitly don't have lockup issues when your lock is as thick as the blade, qlso seems like waving makes the liner move out of position quicker
than opening by the thumb disc
:)

waving and inertia opening is hard on liner locks no doubt.

even thick liners/frame locks can have issues though, in fact i have had them myself, its not common though.
