So I acquired this Mini A100 a few weeks ago and while extremely happy with it, I wanted to change up the bevel grinds. The Emerson had never been used when I bought it but it came with sloppy grind work from the factory. Not bad, but not great.

The blade grind on the Mini A100 is unique in that it’s not the standard chisel grind found on most Emersons. It doesn’t have a full chisel grind but rather just a chisel ground secondary bevel. The smaller secondary bevel is really only ground on one side but there is a very tiny small secondary bevel on the “flat side”. And I mean tiny. While this probably has no effect on cutting performance, I just wanted the blade to have a more traditional grind. Something that would be easier to freehand sharpen and/or sharpen on a Sharpmaker.

So, I sent this off to Josh at Razor Edge Knives to even out and match the 2 secondary bevels. Josh did an amazing job getting this done and was also able to clean up Emerson’s sloppy original grind. I could not be happier. The knife essentially has a larger main saber grind with a smaller secondary bevel. I think I’m describing that correctly? I can’t wait to put this knife to some use. And, thanks again Josh. You do amazing work and the turnaround was crazy fast.

Before - Sorry for the crappy photos.
