i ordered a left hand mini commander. i assume it has a chisel edge. does anyone know what angle it is? i have a lansky and spyderco tri angle sharpening system. i am hoping the angles of the pre set sharpening systems match the angle of the commander...
also, are the serrations at the same angle?
thanks:)

Not real sure of the lansky, but I know the Spyderco isn't the correct angle. You can, with a little ingenuity, make a wedge to put under the Spyderco sharpener to bring the rod to the correct angle.

I believe the edge is around 30-35 degrees, but since it is a chisel grind, this is like a 15 degree v-grind if I'm not mistaken.

On the Emerson site, there is a page or two on how to sharpen the unusual edge of an Emerson. You might want to go check that out.

Hey waynejitsu,

why not just take the triange stones out of the sharpmaker and do it by hand? one of the most useful skills is to be able to maintain your equipment, and u're hardly gonna always have your Sharpmaker w/ you...

I carry a grey and a white triange stone in my sidebag, very useful to touch up an edge, (or to repair, damn staples...:( )

the method on Emersonknives.com is good... and similar to what i use.. just give it a shot...
