Hi,

I wonder which one I want to buy as small tactical knife. Apart from defensive use I'd like to do light to moderate prying and cutting from time to time.

I know hornet quite well, have it for a short time in my pocket. This, what interesting me in commander is wave and smal vulnerability to dirt and dust.

The price is similiar, now it's time to decision.
I never handled Commander before, but I do play with CQC-7, Persian.
The thing I am upset in Emerson folders is very thin liner, compared to thick MoD's linerlock.

As I am talking about MINI commander I ask if in this model the thickness on liner is enough for hard using of the knife. Does it withstand spine whacking? I like my fingers very much...

I'd stick with the MOD if I were you. The chisel grind on the Emerson would scare me off, as well as the Thinner liner lock. I've had several Emersons now that I have had to either send in for repair, or send down the road cuz of the liner lock wearing out. Those are the two main reasons, but the cryogenic blade treatment, fit, finish, materials, and MODs second to none customer service play a factor in it too.

Granted, the Emerson is well designed, and the Wave is pretty whup ass, but it's not enough to bring it above the level of the MOD.

Have fun with yer decision, eh?

I know back when I got my first MOD they had some lock issues, and I could defeat the lock on the one I had with just hand pressure :( I haven't trusted an MOD since...

I'd go with the Emerson. Every one I have owned has been functionally perfect. Perhaps the MOD is a little prettier, but that makes little difference in a hard use blade.

I haven't owned any MOD's as of yet and probably won't until I start hearing positive feedback from there customer service. But I have owned owned an emerson mini and full size commander and was impressed for a production knife. I don't care what anyone says the wave feature is extremely hard to beat for a opening system. With a little practice it can be faster than autos, but is tough on jean pockets. The commanders are V ground but chisel sharpened which is easy to fix with either a Lansky or an Edge pro Apex if you so desire. That's just my .02. If you use a knife like I do you will deal with customer service at some point so that would affect my decision.

still dont know which to buy. What about the durability and toughness of locking liner in mini commander?
is it in the same thickness as in big version?
