I recently took a mini-commander on trade and I gotta tell you guys -this is a NICE knife. I was very hesitant about the trade because I have heard not alot of good things about emerson on here, but after inspection of this knife Im shocked I don't hear more raving about emerson on this forum. SOLID knife - I love the fact that there is ZERO bladeplay - hard to find this in under $150 knives. Great grip, fit and finish, solid lockup, and THE WAVE feature is awsome! I was looking for an emerson without the "wave" feature because I've read about it on this forum and others, and people seem not too fond of it.. why?! IMHO the wave feature is the greatest thing since sliced bread. My only problem with this knife is I cant get the chisel grind very sharp - probably because I sharpened BOTH sides of the blade when I got her - DOH! So Im sending it in to get professionally sharpened. I see more emerson purchases in my near future!

glad you like the knife I thought it was the most comfortable folder I ever held, but I just couldn't get the knack of the chisel grind.anyway enjoy the knife.

Love my MiniCom - EKI takes a beating on this forum, over reputed poor QC and questionable lockup, with the chisel grind as the final nail in the coffin.

Never had a problem with lockup on any of my Emersons - Commander, 2 minis, and a Mach 1. All are as solid as my Spydie or BM liner locks.

As for the chisel grind, make sure you strop it. And, it will never "feel" as sharp as a bevel ground edge, but in my experience they perform well even if they don't "feel" super-sharp.

Until the day that Emerson releases the liner without warning and takes a good old bite out of your fingers or worse, then you'll understand why they have a bad rap.

Don't say we didn't warn you.

Not to rush to EKI's defense - I like them, but they aren't my fave - how many folks do you PERSONALLY know that this has happened to?

Given the limitations of liner locks in general, why should an EKI with good lockup fail any more frequently than another manufacturers lock?

If the QC sucks, I wouldn't use the knife, and yes the liners are fairly thin, but why should an EKI with good lockup, suddenly and out of nowhere, just collapse?

The guy that runs the site put that up as enamored with them. He no longer is for his own reasons, and just hasn't changed the site logos.

Never said they were not tough badass knives, just not safe.

And if you had read the site intro you would have known that I don't run the site.

Sorry, I got sidetracked looking up ironic in my dictionary.

:D ;)

Like I said, hard use knives if you can dare trust the locks.

Another asked how many have I seen?

Too many, over a dozen in the last year, I used to sell them. Not anymore.
