Emerson Multi-tools, need some info.

Hello all.


Let me preface this by saying that I have been carrying an Emerson since I was seventeen and love every product I have handled from them. My latest product I have fallen in love with has been the EDC-1. I have been carrying one daily when I am wearing casual clothes, and want to get a third one in the not too distant future. I haven't seen them for sale in a while, I was wondering if they are still in production? Second question, does anyone here know off the top of their heads when the EDC-2 will be available to vendors? There is an Emerson dealer near my home that I like to patronize, I like buying from them because I am supporting a local business and I get to play around with things before I buy them (It is where I got my EDC-1). My last question is just a shot in the dark but I am hoping my fellow forumites are wiser than I. Does anyone know if the full size Emerson multi-tool is still in the works? It seems like my dream multi-tool.

Thanks in advance for any info you guys can provide. The collective has yet to fail me.

Funny thing you brought the EDC-2 up. I have been trying to decide all day if I want to buy it or not. I have even put it in the shopping cart and deleted it a couple of times. I don't have a local dealer anywhere so all my purchases are online, and I really want to get this in hand before I pull the trigger. But I don't know if the EDC-1 is still in production I don't see it on the website anymore.
 
@ Nic S. I know I will end up with one, and I suspect you know you will end up with one as well ;)

The amount of EDC-2s I purchase actually is going to correspond with whether I will ever be able to get another EDC-1, so it is kind of the determining factor in my purchase.

I am surprised at the lack of responses to my question, usually companies with dedicated fan bases on this forum have people chomping at the bit to get out new gossip and info. Not a complaint, just an observation.
 
Well I was just looking on Emerson's facebook at the EDC-2 and someone asked about the EDC-1 still being in produciton, and here is what i found. Multitaskers Tool who is making the tool said that they believe that the EDC-1s were sold or at dealers and they switched their production to the 2. So if you find another 1 and you want it, id pick it up. I hope this helps.
 
As have been said, the EDC2 will replace the 1.

The 1 was too expensive according to many, so they tried to cut costs to make it more affordable, hence the lack of pry bar and the blade steel has also been changed from D2 to 440C.

Nothing on release date yet, that I've heard of.

I had no idea that the EDC-1 was being discontinued. That is really dissapointing news, since I think it was one of the best knives I have owned, and compared to some of my customs rather inexpensive.
Oh and just for the edification of other readers, the EDC-2 is already out, just isn't available anywhere but the Emerson site.
