It has been forever since I posted on BF and a while since I've purchased a knife. Though a week ago or so I bought a 2014 plain edge Horseman SF. I've had my eye on the Horseman, Gentleman Jim and Roadhouse for a while, though the a good deal on the Horseman came up on the exchange here, so that was first.

So far so good. The knife feels great in hand, with the handle guard/choil making everything really secure. Is there a proper name for that?

In any case, I am thinking of ways to customize it. A 38 special casing for the thumbstud would be cool, though not sure how to cheaply acquire 1. Does anyone have or know somebody with some casings laying around? The cheapest I've seen is $16 for a case of 200 used ones. Though I only need 1 or 2. Worst case, I make a bunch and trade/sell them on here.

Tempted to making my own scales too, Emerson's definitely lend themselves for making scales.

Some pics too.

The Horseman with the Para-Military 2 I'd occasionally carry and the Native 5 I carried daily for some time too.

The thickness is appreciated too. The Horseman is one scale thicker than the PM2. Hopefully you can make that out in the photo.

Nice knife! Emersons have a special feel to them and I want just about all of them lol.

Have you guys seen anyone on BF with the orange mini Roadhouse? Not sure how new it is, though looks pretty cool.

the horseman looks great. i have its larger brother the cqc-8 which i feel is nearly perfect.

i call them finger guards/hand guards

Finger guard works, probably most straight forward. Seems quillon or crossguard (from sword/knife terminology) would be the part that protects your fingers and then the place where your finger rests is simply a finger groove. In any case, good stuff!

The larger Emersons definitely feel great in hand, some anyway. My uncle's regular sized Roadhouse is a beast and I can definitely see why people like those so much. Though the Horseman is likely already pushing it if I were to be caught with it. Ironically enough, my EDC that I took everywhere was/is a Opinel No6 with a blade lenth ~0.5 inches shorter than the Horseman! Though I doubt anyone would really be that threatened by it. The Horseman on the other hand is another story, though not that much bigger than the Opinel. Interesting how shape/design can play such a big role.
