I have around 200 bucks. Looking at a new folder. Emerson seems nice. What other knives should I look at.

Emerson, which I do happen to like, is quite different from Bucks in a number of ways. It took me a little getting used to with the chisel grind, but this can be made quite sharp also, just different. If I were considering something else (always) I would look at Zero Tolerance and Kershaw, Chris Reeve has some really nice folders, also, but it depends on how deep your pockets are. There are some VERY talented custom makers on here also! Just my .02...

The new Benchmade 300sn look to be a great knife. Im waiting for the post man to deliver one. Im a huge emerson collector and I got to say the 2012 production knives I have got this year are very well made some of the best F and F ive seen in a Emerson production knife and one of the best warranties in the industry. . That said emerson knives are Function over form they are not flashy made with cutting edge materials but damn they work well and you got to love the Wave. Zero Tolerance knives are very well made and have great options to fit your needs in that price range you can find a zt0550 gen 2, zt0350xx for less, a lightly used zt056x if you can find some one that will part with one. Lots of great spyderco's iin that price range you will not regret owning. Best bet is to do your home work and find one that suits your personal needs and Hey if you do not like it you can always trade it or sell it on the exchange here on BF.

Start with an Emerson.
I went through many knives and I always drop my CQC7 in my pocket.

what is about Emersons that you like? we can offer better suggestions if you point us in the right direction. That said though, i love my CQC-10. it's my favorite Emerson, and in my top 3 folders among those I own and carry.

Reputation for being a strong knife. Good blade shapes. Wave opener. My only gripe is the liner lock.I would love to get a frame lock cqc 7,8,15 ect.

for an Emerson framelock, you might have to go the custom route. as far as having a reputation for being a tough knife, pick what you like. Emersons have that covered.

Some my favorites though, none have an Emerson Wave opener (since its trademarked/patented):

Benchmade 810 Contego (stronger lock and better steel)
ZT 560 (flipper, titanium framelock, ball bearing pivot, steel upgrade from 154cm)
Spyderco Manix 2 XL (steel upgrade, ball bearing lock, half the price, very comfortable/ergonomiic)
