Hey guys,

First time poster, long time lurker. I'm the proud owner of three Emerson knives, a CQC-7, 8 and 15. Have used them pretty much everywhere throughout the bush here in Australia, and I'll be taking my 7 or 15 overseas on a 6 month internship in the Amazon Jungle in Ecuador.

I've got two questions for the community here; firstly, the linerlock on my CQC-7 seems to be wearing down very quickly. Its a 2009 model, bought in mid 2009, used as an EDC carry. The linerlock is already nearly across to the far side of the handle. Can I send it back to Emerson to get the linerlock replaced? I love the knife, but I'm a bit more reluctant to carry it now.

Secondly, I've seen a lot of mention of using loctite to hold pivot screws in place - is there any particular type or grade of loctite recommended for this?

Cheers in advance!

use the blue loctite. it is only semi-permanent. the red will give you fits if you ever decide to remove the pivot.

i have 99 seven, and the lock is just like yours. it traveled over fairly quickly, then settled at about 80% and hasn't moved since. ive had it for about 8 years.

Thanks for the reply MORIMOTOM, am investigating getting blue loctite now. Loctite 243, right? The far side of the lock is now flush with the far side of the blade. If it goes any further, it'll be past the blade. Should I be concerned about that, and if I send it back can I get a replacement?

I would go to any local hardware store and buy teflon tape. It's like $3 and you'll have a lifetime supply. Just wrap it around the pivot screw a couple times and it won't budge. You also don't have to wait for it to dry like loctite.

- Can you remove the screw easily with the teflon tape on? Is there a possibility of stripping the thread?

it will be secure, though not as secure as a thread locker/adhesive.

the screw will come out easily, while also not backing out on its own. it won't affect the threads at all. its really thin and has no adhesive.

i can't find my tube of loctite, but that sounds right.

the one ive been using is a "ghetto" brand, permatex medium strength threadlocker. its also blue.

- Thanks. I'll have to try some for the pivot.

Thanks for the help guys! I should be picking up some loctite this afternoon :) What about the liner lock, is it a cause for worry and can/will Emerson replace it?

couldn't hurt to send it in, they will replace/repair the lock.

I have a 2009 Super CQC-7 and once the liner traveled all the way to the right, I sent it to Emerson and they took care of it for free although I paid for the shipping.

Sorry for the really newbie question. I just bought some Permatex blue threadlocker. I'm a little unclear at the directions on the package. Do I simply put some threadlocker on the screw and let it dry before installing it? Or do I install it as soon as I put it on?

One source of the lock moving over is wear on the stop pin. Try rotating the stop pin 180 degrees.

Tried rotating the stop pin - I can't see any wear on it. I guess I'll just have to send it back. I can see definate wear on the liner lock.
