Emerson replacement blade?

First thread on the forum! Okay....here's the situation. CQC7, waveless, got it for $70 on Ebay, seems legit. However, want to replace the blade with a waved blade, plus the old blade, while sharp, has been worn quite a bit so the plain edge part is ever so slightly narrower than the serrated portion.

Having owned a Benchmade before I thought a replacement blade would be a good idea, since Benchmade replaces blades at around $40 ish it is quite an economical venture. However...

I emailed EKI and they quoted me at slightly over 100 for a replacement blade, with me paying shipping to and from EKI! I could buy new knives for that money! But I am bent on keeping my CQC7 around.

Any alternatives? Does anybody have a spare CQC7 waved blade lying around? Combo or plain edge are okay.

I will gratefully appreciate any helpful input from you all.

I know a website was closing out 7's for $105.

You have to remember Emerson charges full retail on everything. Probably so they don't compete with there vendors.

I'd say use as is if you're not keen on having EKI replace the blade. Even if you were to find a second hand replacement blade it's not always a simple drop in swap. Tang and lockbar may not match, pivot may not fit in properly, etc. Then you'd have bought a spare blade you could do nothing with and be out even more money.

Unfortunately the only safe bet I see if you're determined to get a new blade is to send it to EKI.

Sorry I couldn't have had better news, however I wanted you to be aware of what you could run into if you did happen to hunt down a spare blade.

Like RiverRat84 said, it's not as simple as a "drop and swap". EKI will likely put in the new blade and adjust the lock bar and blade tang to ensure a proper fit. In the long run sending it in will be the best solution. Or you could take the $100 plus shipping and save it up to get a new Emerson down the road.

Just use it as is. Seriously. You'll love having a knife you're not afraid to thump on.

In that time save up more and buy another Emerson.

Well the place I would start is posting photo on this forum, showing the knife from many angles, and the etching.

Let some of the Emerson experts look, and pass judgement. That if you get feedback it is a real Emerson.

Search down a few pages, for BLADE REPLACEMENT, all the info you need has been covered. BTW there are fake Emerson knives around.

Understood. Thanks guys! I was just wondering because I know quite a few people buy/trade for used benchmades and had them rebladed, in essence having a new knife on the cheap.

This^ if your set on a seven, pick up a new one for practically the same cost as a reblade. If not id check out another model and expand your EKI collection. The new Tigers look promising

Pennypincher i'll post some pics up later. I checked it off and all seems right though. Quality was actually better than I expected, given EKI is known for function over fit and finish, standoffs, The detent on the non-locking liner was there, the liners are non-magnetic as they should be...overall a very solid feel, yet not too heavy in my pocket. I have yet to check the logos in detail but it seemed fine at first glance compared to all that was online. Of all the emerson models the only prolific clone/fake i've seen are of the Emerson commander, iirc
