I've come to accept Emerson will not stop using these screws with the magical dissapearing paint so I have a question. Whats the best way to polish the screws to a nice silver color sans any power equipment?

You could also use a Dremel polishing kit. It makes the job go a lot faster.

I polished the thumb disc, pivot and handle screws on my Mini CQC-7B SFS with Hoppe's Gun Metal polish and a bit of elbow grease to a nice satin finish. I took an old leather belt, applied some of the polishing paste and rubbed the screws on the belt to remove the black finish. I then ordered a satin finished pocket clip from Emerson Knives to give it a fresh new look and it looks really nice.

The fact that the black finish on the screws wears off used to bother me, but I realised it's really insignificant when it comes to the performance of the knife. If you want to maintain the finish, you can visit your local gun store and look for Birchwood Casey's Super Black touch up pens which are available in flat or gloss black.

You don't mean the paint that jumps off the screws as soon as you open the box do you?;) I repainted mine with flat barbeque black Rust-oleum paint. It's pretty durable. When it wears, just give it a quick coat. Keeps it looking "all black" which is part of the visual appeal for me. Eventually, I'm going to satinize the blade on my Mini A, but for now I don't mind the scratches in the Black T.

I'm going to try that Javier, thanks.
Leo, I agree about being visually appealing. I wouldn't want to polish the screws on my BTS Commander, I'm just going to suck it up when they get dull, because an all black knife with polished screws would look like buttcrack. However, on my CQC7SFS I'm going to give it a try, I think It will look nice. We'll see.:)

I polished the screws on my Mini A BT and did not like the looks of it; it was a mirror polish done with a Dremel tool. I put a satin finish on them with 600 grit sandpaper and still wasn't satisfied. That's how I came up with the rust-oleum idea. It works! I agree, it would probably look ok with a satin finish blade, but I really like the all black look. Leo G.

Chris, I agree. Polished screws on a Black-T coated knife does not look right. I took Leo's advise and tried the barbecue black rust-oleum paint to touch up the finish on my all black Raven and it works much better than the Birchwood Casey touch up pens. Thanks for the advise Leo. ;)

Hey, no problem. I found it to work better than the markers myself. Leo G.

By the way, I just picked up a used CQC-7A BTS but 2 of the screws are a bit loose and have been really roughed up to the point that you can't even tighten them. Does Emerson knives offer replacement screws, or will I have to send the knife in to be serviced?

I just bought a set of screws for my Mini. They requested $5 for shipping. If you want a pivot pin too, make sure you ask specifically for one. I didn't even though that's what I meant (my bad) They are great to deal with. I've had three transactions with them and all were very helpful and positive. They really do operate on "no questions asked" they just fix the problem. Leo G.

Brownell's sells a spray can teflon/moly gun finish in an epoxy base. Degrease, spray and bake 15 minutes at ~325 degrees. It's done fine on my 1911 over two years of IDPA, it might hold up better than BBQ paint. Comes in several colors, and clear.
