I've noticed that on Emerson's site they recommend sharpening by drawing a diamond rod across the blade the opposite direction of most other techniques (a stropping method). Why is the advantage to this? Would a Syderco Sharp Maker sharpening system work as well or not?

I have my first emerson on order (mini cqc7b wave) and I'm looking forward to getting it. From all the information I gathered, Emerson looks like the best made knife on the market. I am especially attracted to the wave feature.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

what EKI is talking about help create a "burr" which, w/a chisel grind is what ya want to get, then ya strop the burr to remove it and its sharp.

a sharpmaker will work w/a CG knife but imho its hard to beat a flat 8" or so norton india stone (to create the burr) and a steel to strop it with. a sharpmaker really has the wrong angles on it for CGs so even though it will work its not as good on them as other knives.

Thank you for the wxplanation. That helps a lot. I am coming to really appreciate Emerson knives.
