I have a CQC-7 in plain edge with the hard chrome finish. I read harsh things about Emerson knives but I will say this: my knife, which cost right at $99 two years ago is still razor sharp, and locks up as tight as a vault door. The screws are standard and phillips heads and they have worn their finish off too soon, but the knife is solid. The knife is plain compared to some but it it stout and I can't complain about it. If it is indicative of Emerson knives then that company builds very good ones. It is the only one I own right now... but the CQC 8 look great to me. I own a lot of brands but only the one Emerson.
I'm looking for a Benchmade "Emerson" 970 to go along with my Emerson CQC-7.
The hard chrome finish is tough and cleans easily. My E CQC-7 with hard chrome is an outstanding knife!
