Hello All, I need some help. I just recentley bought an Emerson SOCFK-A off of ebay. It feels Great in my hand! Anyway, there are a few issues with the knife and I need some help. First of all, there is some blade play in the knife side to side. Secondly who ever owned it before me had there name printed on the back side of the blade and had it remmoved. Looks like they used and eraser, but not sure. I also want to convert it to a left side carry. I am not left handed, but I am a LEO and carry my knife on left side. The blade is not centered. It is almost touching the right liner which wouldn't be a problem if I was to carry it on the right side, but when I carry it on the left side and open it with the thumb stud the blade will scrape the liner. The knife also needs to be sharpend and given an over all spa treatment.

My question is this, should I send it in to Emerson to have the blade redone and sharpened and converted to a left side carry? Can and will they fix the side to side play on the knife? Will they center the blade? Does emerson offer a spa type service?

Or should I send it to one of the members here who offers their services? I was thinking about Richard J, since I've read a lot of good things about him. I should also mention that I want to have the blade reground to "v" grind and not the chisel grind that emerson offers.

The other thing that had crossed my minde was maybe I should send it in to emerson and when they get done with it, then I could ship it off to one of the members for the regrind. They only problem with that is that I will be without the knife for a while. What do you think? Any and all advice would be appreciated.

BTW, I'm not the famous STR, maybe I should call myself the other S.T.R. Mine stands for South Texas and you'll have to guess what the R stand for! :p

before you ask, I am 99% sure that this is a genuine emerson SOCFK. The seller on ebay had a 100% rating and has sold many other makes of knives with no complaints.

Thank you in advance,
Sam

Mods can you move this to General knife disscussion. No love from the emerson group. :-(

No I haven't contacted Emerson yet, I wanted some advice from forum members first. Especially since I want to have the blade reground to a conventional edge.

send it to emerson, yes they offer a spa service, its on their warranty form they ask you to fill out when sending your knife in, in my expierence emerson CS is awesome they will get you fixed up.

I also wanted a traditional v grind put on my emersons but was advised it voided the warranty, so i sent it off to Richard J and he sharpened it up and that chisel grind is just as sharp if not sharper than the v grind knives i own. To answer all your questions, send it into emerson, they will fix the knife, the only service I would let anyone but emerson do is sharpening it, let emerson fix the knife and richard J. sharpen it
