Hello,

I'm just wondering if anyone has an opinions on the Supercommander (as a complement to my Mini-commander which I love). Haven't heard too many people owning one. Are they generally harder to find? I don't see them available very often. My local dealer has one and I am seriously considering it.

I'm using it for regular cutting duties here and there around the house and for camping and long hikes. Nothing hard core.

I was looking it up on the emerson site yesterday and it was there but for some reason that page has now been taken off.

I appreciate any experiences and opinions on it.

Thank you.

Edit: I already did a search on google and didn't find much the search on here just broke.

You're right, it is gone from the Emerson site...

For routine cutting chores, I prefer a straighter blade. The Commander has a recruved "saber" blade, where I would personally prefer something more like the CQC-10 shape for chores.

Got to say though, for myself I can't see spending $200 for an everyday knife. When I need to cut something, there are hundreds of great multi-tools out there that I don't mind thrashing. But, when some thug jumps me in a parking lot, that's what I carry my Emerson for...and that's all it is for. That way it is always there and sharp and ready to go!

They moved the link in the Emerson production knives from the lower part of the page to right underneath the "Super Combat Karambit" since I checked it just now.

As Reconranger stated earlier it would be better to use something with a more straighter blade for everyday use since the new Super Commander is higher in price, I got a buddy who uses a normal Commander for construction and it's held up well but the black coating has worn away from using it to cut wires and making holes in dry wall, sometimes we have fun and use it as a throwing knife at drywall and the blade has never failed to open and lock as it did from day one.

You can never go wrong with any of the Emerson line of knives but think about what you are using it for generally and look at edge and blade styles to see what you will it for. My fav two Emerson knives that I carry everyday are my CQC-12 Comrade Ti/G10 combo and Super Combat Karambit seeing as both just scream, "Yeah punk, I dare you to try and rob me now with your little pocket knife!" Haahahahaha! good luck choosing Telkin! :D

A good choice for "work" knives, is all the other brands you have bought over the years that you can't stand anymore, so you don't mind thrashing them!

Oops, I think I may have conveyed the wrong msg slightly. I put down what I had intend it to use it for to give my request some context. Really, I don't use knives that much and I'm really just looking for you experts to give me some justification of why I need a new knife. ;)

The Mini Commander I already own is actually adequate for almost any cutting task I have. I guess I'm just a semi collector who just wants a new toy but can't find any research info/reviews about it.

Still, thanks for all the advice so far. Keep the opinions coming on the Super Commander if possible! I still don't know too much about it. How does it compare to a regular Commander?

Super Com is a big blade. It will attract attention. For such a big blade, the liners etc are still the same as a standard Com, something that bugs me. I would stick to a standard Com. If you want something new to play with, maybe you can check out the 8 or m-wave (IMO, they have the most utilitarian blades) or you could search for the elusive I&I tanto or CQC7A.

i have a couple of I&I's, a LNIB PE and a very slightly used CE, when i got the CE i hadnt ever seen one and thought they would just be a like a BM 975, nope quite a bit different, handle is completely different, the I&I isd a good one for sure, hard to find now and pricey when ya do.

I`ve had a Super Commander for over 5 years and is one of my favorites. If you want one buy it and enjoy it. I give it two thumbs up.

I did pick up the Super Commander and loved it. It came razor sharp and I took it for camping and used it 1 or 2 times in the rain. Was just playing with it today and noticed that there is some slight rust on the edge of the handle (the opposite side of the liner). I'm a little disappointed as I was under the impression that both sides were made of titanium.

Rubbed a bit of WD40 on those parts but there is still some on the little ridges on the spine that I can't get to easily. Anyone else experience this? Mine's a 2007.

So what is I&I?

I&I sports is a sporting goods store in los angeles cali. IIRC, why EKI made a special run of knives for them i havent a clue, i suppose ernie and them had some connection or another.

the I&I tanto has a handle like a viper and a ~4" tanto blade, no other EKI prioduction knife has a handle anything like the I&I.

That does suck about the rust that you have on your brand new super commander. I know as a collector that any little rust stain, no matter how old or new the knife, just throws my attention off for that knife. I don't have the super commander, but I do have the regular commander. I used my commander on the beach (in south texas) while cutting some loose ends of my shorts and trying to strike a magnesium lighter for a small fire. I know my hands were covered in salt water and sand, but hours later when I finally arrived home, thankfully after a brief rinsing and oiling the blade and liner didn't have a single spot of rust on it. Mine is 2006 model which I bought this past summer, and the only complaint I have is that I wish I would have bought it in black!

by the way, I have the "satin finish" which is more like the silver coated version of the black coating, and when it is rubbed against certain things there is a line of grey left on the blade. Does anybody know how to get this off? or has this happened to you guys too? feel free to let me know.
