*I have never owned an Emerson*

I like the aesthetics of some of their knives and the designs seem sound. The wave feature is not something I'm interested in.

What's up with their quality control, though? Lots of reports of knives with QC issues. This isn't what I expected for the high prices.

Are they asking me to pay for a name?!?!

Take a read in the Emerson forum, your questions have been thoroughly answered.

The quality "issues" are blown WAY out of proportion by people with an anti-Emerson agenda. I own 13 Emerson's, and not a single issue with any of them.

here we go again.....:barf: emerson great knives in their price range PERIOD. if you don't like them dont buy them!! they are so poorly biult but people pay thousands for them.

:jerk it:<---- to those who say there are QC issues, currently own 3 Emerson's and have had 5 different Emerson's in my lifetime and it has never been an issue....Lots of HATERS out there. I suggest you visit a dealer or go to a show and put one in your hands and evaluate for yourself.

I'm not a hater at all. I just saw some complaints and decided to check into it.

The liners aren't polished, oh no! That is about the extent of the "lack of fit and finish" I've seen in the 4 I've owned.

Mr. Emerson addressed the F&F concern at length on another forum. He plainly said he could give a rats (butt) about beauty, he builds his knives for hard-use types to use hard in hard-use scenarios. He encouraged folks to vote with their wallets and you can see they aren't going out of business anytime soon :). Yes, the occasional stop pin will rattle and there may be a burr on the blade but I'll put my 11 yr old 7A up against any other manufacturers knives in a torture test.

I can honestly say that I've owned and carried knives from every major manufacturer from Schrade to Strider and the knife that lands in my pocket every single day is an Emerson because I trust them to get me through whatever situation I find myself in.

As for the wave, I can't stand it. I buy non-wave versions or send them to Ernest to be factory de-waved (warranty stays intact).

Find a friend who has one, get a beater for cheap on the forum or buy new. If you don't love it there will be plenty of folks happy to buy it off you for $15 less than you paid. I'm willing to bet you're gonna keep it though. Good luck bud.

Your question is legitimate. But in all fairness, a search or even just a perusal of the Emerson forum would reveal many lengthy discussions on this topic, with all sides represented, including statements from Mr. Emerson himself.

I agree, I have at least 10 Emersons and all of them outstanding. Are the Chris Reeve knives? No way but they are not intended to be. Emerson makes the pinnacle battle blade. It was made to operate in the field and it operates flawlessly as long as you give it the proper maintenance like you would any machine.

I have found that once you get to handle an Emerson knife, you either 'get it' or you don't. They are built for use and not beauty, although I find the ergos and design a thing of beauty. Wrap your hand around a CQC-10 or CQC-15 and you will see what I mean.

My EDC is an Emerson CQC-13. I have other Emerson knives also and there is no problem in the fit and finish that I can see.

I own one Emerson. A CQC-7BW. I think the fit and finish is very nice! But for some reason it hasnt ended up in my pocket. Just doesnt do much for me for some reason? Maybe I should get a larger model and give them a second chance! But I def think they are well worth what they charge for them! I think im gonna order one after seeing this post! LOL!

EXACTLY, you could not have summed it up better.

For the price you pay one could get a much better knife like a nice titanium frame lock with better steel and better f&f.

Find me a knife with a design shape like a Super CQC-7, Ti-Framelocked, with great F&F, with a good blade steel, that opens incredibly fast since the CQC-7 does and costs around $200.

Why don't you have a look at the Benchmade 760 Lum folder? Titanium framelock, tanto blade made of M4 steel, and near the same size as the Super CQC-7, not to mention they're similar in appearance. The lowest price I have seen it go for on an online retailer is $176.00. Now, allow me to list a few more titanium framelock options with newer steels better f&f and around the same price range.

Combative Edge M1 $170.00
Spyderco titanium Military $200.00
Kershaw Tyrade $190.00
Zero Tolerance 0550 $200.00
Zero Tolerance 0300 series $205.00
I'm sure there are more that I can't remember at this moment.

I do not want to start a flame war here so this will be my last post in this thread, out of respect for the Emerson fans.
