Anyone ever used their Emerson for processing/field dressing deer or birds?

Which model did you use and how well did the geometry work? I'm familiar with the CQC16, but it never really did it for me- the upswept tip looked great for skinning, but not so much for gutting (gut puncture waiting to happen). What do you guys think?

I've use my CQC10 to process waterfowl. Nice, simple blade shape and easy to sharpen.

I've never gone hunting with an Emerson knife. This thread makes me want to field dress a deer carcass or something though.

No kidding! I see these posts from guys using their Spydercos, bucks, etc. We need a thread like that starring Emersons!

I was going to suggest the 16 but I got beat to it. I've never processed game with an Emerson but a 10 seems like it would to the trick!

When EE developed the cqc16, I read in his narrative that his buddy the hunter always used commanders. Wonder how well they worked?

I have dressed a hog with a commander it works great. I still prefer my blade tech prohunter for most hunting needs. However if i had a 10 it might be my go to for hunting.

I have a pro hunter magnum as well, but it developed lock rock and I don't trust it like I used to. Thinking of trying an Emerson...

Not exactly the same, but I just made short work of a couple of whole chickens with my Ubr Commander... And it was fun. I imagine it would work well in the field too... And what's a thread without pics!

The only thing that would make this better would be If feathers were stuck to the blade, lol!

Aias, are you an architect?

A professor of architecture or other subject? I'm an architect and AIA is our professional organization, AIAS is the student organization.

Oh! No, of political philosophy; Aias was one of the major heroes of the Iliad.
