Emersons returned from Warranty- All my issues Resolved!

It seems like lately there have been a few Very Negative threads about Emersons and their warranty. It seems like some guys want to post first and ask questions later.

I want to share my Positive story, but first a little background. I started collecting Emersons in 2012, it's what lead me to BF. In that time I have bought about 15 Emersons all together. I have sold some off to buy other Emersons. Right now I am at 12 Emersons. All the Emersons I have bought have either come from Blade Forums or the "Green Forum", so all of them have been bought second hand or in some cases third hand. Out of all those Emersons I have bought I have only had and issue with one that I bought off of this forum. The issue with the knife is that it had lock rock. The seller didn't disclose this when he sold it to me. It was from a model that hasn't been in production for a long time. I got it for a pretty good price, but if I had known about the issue, I would have probably offered less than the asking price. The was also a second issue with the knife, but I can't remember if it came like that or it developed after I had the knife in my possession, the issue was that the pocket clip was loose. I don't know if the screws were stripped or the titanium liner was stripped. I'm guessing it was the later. Anyway, I didn't leave the seller negative feedback, because I had always heard that Emerson had a Great warranty service department.

I also acquired and Emerson CQC-11 BTS in a trade for a Benchmade Auto Presidio 5300. The member contacted me and asked if I wanted to trade my Benchmade for his 11 BTS. He told me that the very tip of the knife had been chipped off by an "Idiot Friend" of his. I asked for pictures and the damage was not that bad, only about 1 mm of the very tip had been chipped off and the rest of the knife was in great condition. I accepted the trade again, knowing about, but never using Emerson's Great Warranty.

I finally decided to mail in the knives for Warranty work and to be sharpened. I also sent a 2000 Green handled Commander to be sharpened. I filled out the form and wrote down why I was sending them in and what I wanted done.

Here are some tips for those of you sending in knives to EKI for warranty work. EmersonRep feel free to add anything else you think might be necessary.

Fill the form out correctly and legibly.
Send the package insured as per the form instructions. Also it helps to get a tracking number, they only cost .90 cents or are free from USPS if the package is insured for more than $200.00
Keep track of when your package arrives and CALL EKI once it shows your package has arrived. It helps to speak to someone, instead of sending an email. I'm sure EKI gets hundreds of emails daily or some emails that are never received.
EmersonRep is now available here on BF and has stated to ask him any question you have about your knife via PM. Use him, he helped me out when I asked him about my knives.

The knife I sent in for the lock rock came back with an early solid lock up and a tight solid pocket clip. I don't know if they replaced the liner or not. On the invoice all it said was "Warranty work". The CQC-11 BTS came back as good as new with a nice point on the end and the serrations and the rest of the edge where screaming sharp. The Green Handled Commander also came back hair shaving sharp. The total cost for all this work was $31.00 and $17.00 of that was for the USPS return shipping. If I lived close by and dropped the knives off and picked them up, the total cost would have been $15.00. Can anyone tell me of any other knife company that gives you so much value for you money?

Some of you might say that I only sent the knives in so I could list them for sale. I admit that is partly true, I did put 2 of them up for sale, but only because there are other Emersons that I want and I can't afford to keep all the ones I have. One of the main reasons I buy Emersons is because of their Great Warranty. I know if I use the knife and I can use it hard that EKI's warranty has me covered. Anything short of abusing the knife will be covered and I'm sure that some of the knives that have been abused have been covered, when other knife companies would not cover them.

I also have 5 Emersons that I have voided the warranty on by having them "Pimped." I did it because I wanted to make those knives, "My Own" by having them pimped. I know that I voided the warranty by having them pimped, but I also know we have several talented knife pimpers here and on other forums who can fix any problem that may arise.

I know that I have gone on in this thread and this is the longest post I have ever made on any forum, but I felt like it needed to be said.
I know that there are others like me that have had a Great Experience with EKI's Warranty Service.
Please feel free to share your "Positive Warranty" stories here.:thumbup:

I hope that they could some collaboration dealer work in here Taiwan.

Use to have a 2002 commander and 2006 cqc7 but eventually sold it because I don't know how to contact Emerson for repair.
It's good to have EmersonREP here to help us, I hope that next time when I need the repair service EmersonREP could help me out.

I just received a few back from Emerson and have no complaints. One had a centering issue that I wanted serrations added (going to a friend as a gift), commander with a soft lock engagement and a 99 commander I wanted sharpened and looked over. Locks were tuned and detents replaced. All came back pretty sharp. I sent them out on a Monday and received them the following Monday! I was surprised with the turn around! None of the issues were major but I figured I might as well send them all since one was getting serrations.

Filling out the paper is key. They didn't have to call for clarification just for billing. Couldn't be happier!

Well your story is what I expected S.R.T, after sale service per written policy from EKI. Plus you followed simple instructions, communicating what you need done, plus did the follow up phone call thing.

I think a lot of the NEGATIVITY post on Blade Forum about Emerson, and other brands is in many cases just INTERNET TROLLS having fun, or getting off on putting out misinformation because they can and do hide behind some INTERNET HANDLE.

There was a recent TREAD about some problems with Emerson by a guy who SCREEN NAME was like "Hunter" something. I kept seeing RED FLAGs as the thread went on.

At one point Mr. E Emerson got involved in trying to fix this guys problems personally, and the tread even after Mr. Emerson’s person involvement continue to burn like a fire.

I m not sure if the hunter guy was ever made happy, but he apparently has disappears from this forum, and I hope he don't resurface.

I worked for many years in the Underground News business, and let me tell you. Many times we were given a story lead, after running it down, checking it out, and trying to separate fact from fiction.

Some time you could just not get the story to the point of going to ink, because the Legal Department said we did not have a complete package, meaning some of the facts were not rock solid, and Legal said KILL the Story.

Many times the story never made ink as most of it was a fabrication of half truth, or no truths, from someone trying to make a buck off information.

So enjoy the forums, and use some due diligence trying to separate fact, from fiction.

At a minimum most customer service problems, come down to a minimum of THREE SIDES to the story.

Party “A’s”

Party “B’s”

110% TRUTH

I'll tell you, STR, it's great to read this. It affirms I made the right choice about a knife to call my own. I personally haven't dealt with the warranty department at all but there are people I trust who informed me that the people and service are top notch.

I bought a Commander from a less than reputable source to save a buck. I received someones beater in a new box. I was so elated to even be holding a Commander that I went to work on fixing it myself. It's what sold me on the knife.

A simple, perfect design, made to be restored like new after being abused quite well. At least that's what I experienced. I knew nothing of the knife and had it working like new quickly. I'm still f**cking amazed at it, pardon the french. When I tell you I abused it, I really did if only to see if I could break it because like I said, I bought it on the cheap anyway.

I bought a Super afterward and to this day have not one issue with either knife except that I can't get a couple of others right away.

If someone picked it up and used it, they'd swear it was brand new. It's not for lack of real use either. I wore most of the laser etching off at this point and used it as a prybar more than once when I knew no better. It flexed and never gave and accomplished getting my drawers put back into my dresser after a move.

STR, you are a credit to this community, and I'm personally grateful for the wisdom and sense you always add to any discussion

Initially it seemed like Emerson knives were polarized landmine full of fanboys on one end and haters on the other. But what I've come to realize is that each extreme is more of a vocal minority. The remaining 99.8% of Emerson's user base are regular folks who enjoy using a dependable and well built tool, and who have no reason to go online to duke it out with the haters.

Emerson has stuck to their guns, and the real truth is causing the polarized chaos to die down. That's a good thing, as it allows for more rational and friendly discussion of the benefits we all get from knives and other tools.

I sat on the Emerson sidelines for several years and soaked it all in before I finally pulled the trigger on an Emerson. But a CQC-7A is in the mail, and I'm sure that I'll kick myself for not jumping in sooner.

Speaking of being late to the game, I just saw the Nutnfancy interview with Ernest Emerson at the 2012 SHOT show, and it really deepened the respect that I've come to have for Mr. Emerson.
He does what he loves, and he makes the world a MUCH BETTER place because of it.

Thanks again, STR, for adding something so positive to this discourse.

A Great thread, indeed. Thank you S.T.R.
I bought a well used HD7 from a good man here on BF, lock bar went all the way over to the G10, and EKI sent her back 100% perfect.
Thank you EKI.
This HD7 is my EDC.

To all of you guys who have posted in this thread, THANK YOU for all the kind words and positive post. I know that the positive experiences with EKI far out weighs the negatives. I mentioned that I have had 15 Emersons over all and only 1 came with an issue that the seller didn't disclose. I don't think my Emersons came from any pimpers, who took apart and tweaked the knives. I think they came from regular knife guys like us who enjoy using knives, but don't really make any modifications ourselves other than cleaning them up after using them. So, how can it be that I have had so many Emersons and I have barely had 1 issue with 1 knife? I'll tell you how. Emerson must be doing something Right!

With all the due respect STR, you did something wrong in this thread. And you're not new.

Where are all our pictures of the returned knife!!! :P

I'd love to see some (if you have) before and after, not sure if it was a good user knife with some character marks.

Thanks!

Well I had to talk to Emerson about my Commander. I had an issue with the clip screws loosening up and elongation the holes in my scales. I called Emerson and the rep on the phone was very nice and get all my info and shipped out new screws (the goofy 1.6mm screws I think they are) clip and a scale... I was surprised by how easy it was. However this was a few years back before the Emerson/Kershaw collaboration. But that was then and they were awesome. I'd hate to find out their customer relationship skills have gone down the drain.

The 3 knives are in the family picture I posted. They are the 11BTS, the Green handled Mach 1SFS and the Green handled Commander. Unfortunately I didn't take any before pictures, before I sent them in for work. I'll try and post pics of the 2 that went in for work.

Glad you were taken care of. Our customer relationships have only gotten better from a few years ago. Nothing has or ever will change. The new Kershaw knives will be warrantied through Kershaw since they're the makers of the knives. Ernie just designed them.

And some Green Handled Goodness!

As you can tell by looking at the pictures, you could never tell that the 11 BTS was chipped. The lock up on the Mach 1 SFS is solid and early. The edge on the Green Handled Commander is shaving sharp!
I am a Very Satisfied Customer!
