It seems like lately there have been a few Very Negative threads about Emersons and their warranty. It seems like some guys want to post first and ask questions later.
I want to share my Positive story, but first a little background. I started collecting Emersons in 2012, it's what lead me to BF. In that time I have bought about 15 Emersons all together. I have sold some off to buy other Emersons. Right now I am at 12 Emersons. All the Emersons I have bought have either come from Blade Forums or the "Green Forum", so all of them have been bought second hand or in some cases third hand. Out of all those Emersons I have bought I have only had and issue with one that I bought off of this forum. The issue with the knife is that it had lock rock. The seller didn't disclose this when he sold it to me. It was from a model that hasn't been in production for a long time. I got it for a pretty good price, but if I had known about the issue, I would have probably offered less than the asking price. The was also a second issue with the knife, but I can't remember if it came like that or it developed after I had the knife in my possession, the issue was that the pocket clip was loose. I don't know if the screws were stripped or the titanium liner was stripped. I'm guessing it was the later. Anyway, I didn't leave the seller negative feedback, because I had always heard that Emerson had a Great warranty service department.
I also acquired and Emerson CQC-11 BTS in a trade for a Benchmade Auto Presidio 5300. The member contacted me and asked if I wanted to trade my Benchmade for his 11 BTS. He told me that the very tip of the knife had been chipped off by an "Idiot Friend" of his. I asked for pictures and the damage was not that bad, only about 1 mm of the very tip had been chipped off and the rest of the knife was in great condition. I accepted the trade again, knowing about, but never using Emerson's Great Warranty.
I finally decided to mail in the knives for Warranty work and to be sharpened. I also sent a 2000 Green handled Commander to be sharpened. I filled out the form and wrote down why I was sending them in and what I wanted done.
Here are some tips for those of you sending in knives to EKI for warranty work. EmersonRep feel free to add anything else you think might be necessary.
Fill the form out correctly and legibly.
Send the package insured as per the form instructions. Also it helps to get a tracking number, they only cost .90 cents or are free from USPS if the package is insured for more than $200.00
Keep track of when your package arrives and CALL EKI once it shows your package has arrived. It helps to speak to someone, instead of sending an email. I'm sure EKI gets hundreds of emails daily or some emails that are never received.
EmersonRep is now available here on BF and has stated to ask him any question you have about your knife via PM. Use him, he helped me out when I asked him about my knives.
The knife I sent in for the lock rock came back with an early solid lock up and a tight solid pocket clip. I don't know if they replaced the liner or not. On the invoice all it said was "Warranty work". The CQC-11 BTS came back as good as new with a nice point on the end and the serrations and the rest of the edge where screaming sharp. The Green Handled Commander also came back hair shaving sharp. The total cost for all this work was $31.00 and $17.00 of that was for the USPS return shipping. If I lived close by and dropped the knives off and picked them up, the total cost would have been $15.00. Can anyone tell me of any other knife company that gives you so much value for you money?
Some of you might say that I only sent the knives in so I could list them for sale. I admit that is partly true, I did put 2 of them up for sale, but only because there are other Emersons that I want and I can't afford to keep all the ones I have. One of the main reasons I buy Emersons is because of their Great Warranty. I know if I use the knife and I can use it hard that EKI's warranty has me covered. Anything short of abusing the knife will be covered and I'm sure that some of the knives that have been abused have been covered, when other knife companies would not cover them.
I also have 5 Emersons that I have voided the warranty on by having them "Pimped." I did it because I wanted to make those knives, "My Own" by having them pimped. I know that I voided the warranty by having them pimped, but I also know we have several talented knife pimpers here and on other forums who can fix any problem that may arise.
I know that I have gone on in this thread and this is the longest post I have ever made on any forum, but I felt like it needed to be said.
I know that there are others like me that have had a Great Experience with EKI's Warranty Service.
Please feel free to share your "Positive Warranty" stories here.:thumbup:
